DVD RW Problem

I just got around trying to fiddle with the DVD burning capabilities of this machine, and when I tried to do a simple backup job and copied the ripped source to hardrive, it wouldn't recognize the blank DVD.

I use Memorex DVD-R, and tried a couple from two packages, and every time I put it in it does nothing.

I'm positive I have the DVD-RW optical drive, but this is bonkers...

Could you guys help me out?

Are you REALLY, REALLY sure you have a DVD-RW? I ordered a -RW but I guess AW ran out and quit offering them so they sent me a +RW. It really didn't matter to me.

I believe it is common for particular drives to not like specific brands of media. I wouldn't be too worried. I would just try a different brand. I realize that can get expensive with DVDs but you do what you got to do. Maybe you can email or call AW and see if they recommend a particular brand. I just picked up a cheap no name brand at Circuit City just to test my drive when I first got it. Oh I found the brand name... I bought Liquid Video 2.4x speed DVD+RW. These seem to work fine.
