APPLE Store

Hi. I was just wondering what it is i can find at an apple store. They just opened one in tucson a year ago. I'm interested in buying an ibook or powerbook(if its not completely discontinued) once the intel processor gets shoved in to them. Im hoping they still produce the powerbook, since the macbookpro is a bit too expensive starting at 1999. My question is, can i try them out at the apple store, to check out design, keyboard screen etc.? Also, do these stores honor the education discount.??

Thanks.

At my local apple store, which is about 300 mile round trip, you can try out any of the macs, the mini's, laptops, desktops, even the iPods. So I would imagine that you could try out everything there.

As far as the powerbook or ibook, I'm sure apple will have a lot left over, but when I used the macbookpro it made me feel that the 1.33ghz i have no is extremely slow
So in a few weeks i'm going to put my order in for a mbp, lol

Pretty much yes to everything, including the educational discount.

yes, the apple store has practically everything there for some hands on fun. I don't think they are going to continue the PB, at least the 15" because they took it off of the Apple Store online. They might have some left at your Apple Store that just opened. They MacBook Pro may be a bit too expensive, but if you use an educational discount, then it is a bit cheaper.

that and if u want a basic stock machine, consider amazon as they're rebate price comes out cheaper than apple academic + taxes. in essence the MBP entry level comes out to around what the price was for the stock 15" PB. if u want something smaller u can go with a 12" iBook or PB now, or wait for the 30th b-day announcement (around april 1st, and no it won't be a fool's day announcement) which will likely yield new models for the smaller notebooks.

Yea, triadone, i came to the conclusion that i dont need the powerbook or macbookpro. Im fine with the ibook 14". I hope they dont discontinue that model when the intel version comes out,ive read it might be 13" ibook or macbook. IM not a power user, and the ibook suits me just fine, granted its not as sexy as the powerbook. Damnit, ill just have to go to my apple store and see what i like, and see what is released april 1. I wonder what gpu they will stick in the ibooks, i hope its not intel gma 950. anyways, something along this setup should be fine:

I'll go check the ones on amazon out. The advantage to the education discount is that in addition to saving money on the notebook, i save 70 bucks on the warranty for 3 yrs. Thanks for the info.

ah, but u don't have to buy both from the same place. applecare if bought at bestbuy, compusa, your local computer, or where ever shop will cover your computer or apple product if bought within the regular 1 year warranty. so if you're tight on $ now, drop the ~$1200 on the system u want and save money over the next year to buy applecare for the next 2. u can get applecare at academic rates + tax, or if u r not from california (or r from cali and want to save a few $s + tax) u can go here for as good a price as academic without taxes:

OK I went to the local apple store here in tucson, and i gotta admit, to my surprise, i wasnt too impressed.

1.) The ibook is not built as well as people make it to be. I pused down on the palmrest and i heard freaking squeking. Also a big, minus is that the keyboard is not white, its like beige, it looks obsolete and not cohesive with apple elegance. The whole palmrest and keyboard is this color, i was under the impression that they were the glossy finish as in the outside, but it looks like those old beige keyboards we all had on our first computers. THis laptop closed looks gorgeous. SO maybe the use or exposure made the keyboard and palmrest this color?

2.) The macbook pros are sexy!! Wow, damn slim. They run a little warm, but nothing unbearable. THey are built really nicely and solidely. And what can i say, its got intel core duo, i expereicnde no lag running various programs, but this booger is a bit expensive for a college student, or at least me. (2100$ speced) And the keyboard is not as recpetive(good) as the one in my asus.

And, i asked about the powerbooks, and the lady said they were being completely phased out.

Also when i told someone else that i was waiting for the smaller intel notebooks, and he said that an advantage to buying in store is that they already have the intel ibooks in stock, so i wouldnt have to wait for them to ship. but then, he rapidly switched the conversation and said, that all macs would be intel by 07. And went off on a tangent. DO apple stores already have intel ibooks as this guy mentioned? Or is he completely being a douche and lying? I dont know.

Also, i have a question about the ipods, does the back of them scratch really easy?

He's a douche...there aren't any intel iBooks out yet. Unless they're going to be announced pretty soon and the store is stocking up and the guy let it slip.

Maybe he let it slip, lol. I can see Steve Jobs announcing the new iBooks, and he'll say "And they will be in stores TODAY".

Can anyone comment with respect to the Ibook?

Is it really beige on the inside (keyboard + palmrest) or was the one i saw screwed up?
And do the back of the ipods scratch easily?

I used to like the color ipods, they used to look more resistent.

looks like it to me. More of a grayish color. Take a look at the ones online.

the interior is a soft/light grey, kinda like the new sonys and lighter than the windows machines w/ the darker grey KBs. no where near beige imo.

the back of an ipod should scratch like any other polished chrome surface. get a case if u get an ipod other than the shuffle.
