I checked the setting of the 9600 in 6805 using power strip: Stock its GPU 297
Memory 202.5,at that it gets 9156 in 3Dmark2001se,I then set it to 320,220
and got 9985 stable as can be ,no gain in heat.

That's a pretty good improvement.

Still haven't been able to see one in real life. I stopped by best buy tonight to check out the 6805. They didn't have any on display. I asked one of the salesmen if they had any in stock that I could check out because I was interested in buying right then but wanted to see it first. Without checking, "No. Maybe next week." I look over his shoulder and see two brand spanking new m6805's in boxes on the shelf, one was already opened. I understand that they don't want every Joe Schmoe rifling through their stock. As a serious buyer I wanted to check out what I was paying for. I wasn't about ready to plunk down $1600 sight unseen just to get a look at the machine and then get stuck with their restocking fee if it wasn't what I expected. So my quest for visual/tactile confirmation continues.

Have you found anymore info on why it doesn't hit 2ghz? If it gets respectable scores on one leg it should be real nice when they pull the cork. How would you rate its build quality compared some of the other machines they had there?

eMachines M6805 at Best Buy

I got to play with one at my local BB, pretty nice - alot like the Centrino laptop that I now run - but faster...

They had it running one of those endless loop demo programs that lets you look at a lot of junk about alot of junk... Still, I got out of that by going into safe mode

They basically let me do what I wanted for awhile, even though when they walked by and asked if I needed help/was everything alright it was obvious what I was doing. I of course put the machine back the way it was after I left. It is really not a bad machine, and I could get onto their local WAP with it no problem. Definitely superior to my Centrino in every way... ( except, the Centrino is a really solid beautiful design. The M6805 isn't bad, pretty nice in fact, but not quite as good ).

Sigh...

I liked the feel of the touchpad, the sound wasn't bad - I do wish I had brought a game or something to see how it liked the graphics, but I have played with 9600 type mobiles before so there should be no surprises.

Oh, it doesn't hit 2ghz because that is a typo. The mobile 3000+ is a 1.8ghz part with 1mb cache, whereas the the desktop 3000+ is a 2ghz part with a 512kb cache.

Thanks for the info.

Right now I'm debating between the eMachines M6807 and the Gateway M505xl. Centrino vs. Athlon64. Similar in their options and size. Totally different processors. Maybe Gateway will drop the price on the xl and not just the x and make my decision harder. One can only hope.

That utility is pretty useful. It does a decent job of determining the maximum overclock for ATi-based cards, for both the GPU and the RAM.

Bowkiller: GPU speeds for both ATi's and nVidia's mobile GPUs are set by the OEM, not by the chip manufacturer. ATi and nVidia specify the maximum clock speed, but different OEMs are free to set it to whatever they see fit.
