All this talk about Heat.

Ok, from reading different threads about heat and how hot a computer should get. I have the 5500 with a lapcool2 underneath it.

With the 6600 go video card turned on and looking at the NVIDIA temp readings, I am getting:

GPU core Temp : 55C and 67 C during a game
Ambient Temp : 47C and 59 - 60 C during a game

Are these readings ok, or am I running hot. I saw on one thread that your CPU doesn't want to exceed mid 60's. Is that my Ambient Temp?

GPU 60-75

Never had any problems with games e.g. BF2 for 6 hrs etc etc

This heat talk has me worried. I see many laptop coolers. With a wide variety of prices. Is it you get what you pay for or are they generaly the same.

piff, i think the average running temp on a 7700 w/ a game was like 75-80, so i wouldnt be too worried

As for the guy playing EQ2 and having the heat problems. EQ2 pushes hardware harder than 3DMark06, so imagine running that for 11 hours straight.

Haven't bothered to load the temp monitoring programs on my m5500 yet, but so far I've not had any problems with it. The right side does get warm - some would even say hot, after gaming for a while. But it's not uncomfortable, and I've seen no performance issues, even after playing EQ II for several hours at a time. No laptop cooler, I just make sure the air vent for the fan is not blocked.

7700 will be running hotter I'm guessing. Likely won't be able to stay logged into EQ2 24/7 as i usually am I'm guessing. I usually don't log out, just crash in my Suite in-game.

temps arent bad, but i dont like my pc running that hot. my EX7(7700 equivalent) is kept in a 60 degree room (F not C n00bs!), so when my vents are clear, i get in the mid 50's for temps.

I'm the EQ2 guy and the game runs fine. I'm really not sure what happened that one day though.. I use max settings with the only real thing turned down is shadows (as that's the only thing that seems to lag me a little.) The past couple days no problems running at all. I've played hours straight and no performance changes.. at least none unless you pay extremely close attention. In fact today I zoned through ALL of the major cities that my old comp would lag an insane amount through on Minimum settings about 5 times per each town which is bout a total of eh 25-30 times and no performance issues. After I logged out though, my computer was tired. It opened the internet page slower and just seemed a little more draggy then normal. Only time this has happened, as normally I can leave that game and everythings still running top notch. Temps. on Graphic Core were bout 59. So I definetly don't have an overheating problem.

59C is a good temp reading for a highend laptop. i wouldnt mind getting into eq2. used to be a level 70 necromancer in EQ1, kinda drifted out of mmo's though.

I know how that can be. I used to play eq1 and would play for 4+ months, get bored and try again in 2 months or so for another couple months, then leave. What keeps me on eq2 are the graphics and now pvp servers as it gives me more to do.
Highest i've seen so far was 61c. I want to get a temp. right after I play eq2 though so I can get exact figures.

HAHA gl with that 1. I wouldn't be in my bed with this huge laptop. It would kill me from the weight! (Bruisers rule and when mixed with the Ratonga race, nothing comes close... well sk Ratonga are cool but still not as cool as a Bruiser!) Oh and I just checked my temp. After 5 hours of gameplay and it was right after gaming..couldn't be a more accurate reading of 62c.

Well, I'm used to having heavier peop... er... things on top of me in bed, so I hope it will be all right =P.

You don't have to load any programs on your computer if you have the 6600 graphics card turned on. Just go into the NVIDIA properties and there is a tab for temp. It will show you your GPU and ambient temps.

Wish the 7800GTX did that. Doesn't say anything about temperature in the tab, and took me a while to find a program that would tell me the Graphics Card temperature.
