xps m170 refresh rate locked

Thread Starter
hello!

I just bought an xps m170 , unfortunately i found out that it is locked at 85hz refresh rate. I would like to be able to run at 100hz, is this possible with these overclocks or mods?
thank you

LCD's don't "refresh".

for external monitor, i have it connected to a crt

what resolution are you running at, most crt does not go over 85hz above 1024x768.

i have a syncmaster 997mb, would like to run it at 1024*768, my crt supports 1024/768 at 130 hz i believe, but i ran it at 100hz on my desktop

i really need to have it running at 100hz due to the game i'm playing.

thank you!

This is quite confusing, why do you need it at 100 hz? That is awfully high.

i play counter-strike 1.6 competively, and i purchashed the laptop to be able to take it around to lan tournaments (so nice and portable), because at 85hz i'm really only getting 85fps, almost everyone plays cs at 100hz or 120hz, (also mouse sensitivity comes into play at different refresh rates).

i know of two teams that use xps m170s for lan practice and have heard that they are able to play at 100hz. i called dell tech support and they said that both cards can only display at 85hz... so i'm under the assumption that to force it to 100hz i'm going to have to overclock/soft mod it somehow?

to be honest i do not know much about the physical hardware, i'm assuming that it would be possible to do this without physically modifying the card itself? (i.e., it is not the analog connector that restricts refresh rate correct?)

perhaps someone who has tweaked their card w/ these bios flashes etc can look at the display properties for their monitor and take a quick peek and see if options above 85hz are available? =P

thank you in advance!

isn't 1.6 locked at 60fps?

nooo in the config you can enable up to 100fps. As i'm sure alne88 is aware of.
dude just download "powerstrip" and "reforce" (google em')
use those programs to set your refresh rate to what you want. although your monitor might not be able to run 1024x768 at 100hz, 800x600 definetly will, just use 8xAA and 16xAF and it looks great.

hello, i have used reforce but when i enable it to 100hz, the option disables for that resolution.

for example, in reforce on my active monitor profile i set 1024/768 to 100hz, in counter-strike the option for 1024/768 resolution disappears, as well as for desktop resolution in display properties.

honestly, the difference from 85 -> 100 fps is nothing to your eyes. no big deal...

download ReForce (Refresh Force).

got it to work.. and yes you can tell a difference from 85 - 100 hz both visually and in mouse sens.

but thanks everyone! i got it work, i just downloaded the drivers from laptopvideo2go

thanks again

I could never play at 100Hz. With 100fps, there was wayyy too much tearing at that frequency.

Default setting of fpsmax is 72. But it can be set upto 100fps before you have to turn on developer 1 to go any higher.

For your external monitor, you need to grab the latest manufacturer's driver before you can push the VGA port above 75hz on the default Windows display drivers.

I downloaded that program too, how can I check to make sure that my screen is now running at 100?
