It did turn out awesome! Nice lappy!

Alot of people don't understand the time and work that goes into art.

If someone spends 20 hours on painting a notebook, how much should they get paid for their time and materials? $5 an hour, $10, or even $15?

Also, stencil is not a bad word and is not looked at for what it really is. These artists who use stencils, don't just get them out of a some big book of stencils or stecils for dummies. They draw them and cut them out most of the time. This is so they can airbrush with nice clean edges.

Now I might not be a very good artist, but I know what goes into creating these things.

go to www.smoothcreations.com and send em an email or call em. tell them the size of the area to be painted and what you want EXACTLY, and they will give you an estimate. im thinking probably $200-300.

I did not say they weren't the leader. They get plenty of publicity for their work.

Also, like I said in the original post. Do not go hijacking this with your own stuff. So please leave the thread if you can't comtribute to the main topic.
The title is " Custom Dell Painting - Ideas Please"

Well, my idea was Smooth. You had to crap all over it instead of just saying no thank you.

Darth, in my original post I said that I already had someone. Then you had to try and throw in a baseless advertisement because of your overwhelming pride in the price you paid for you painted PC's.

You hijacked this thread... AND you even had to be a ****ING DRAMA QUEEN and make another post in another section of the forums pointing out this thread hoping people would back you up in here. So... how about you stop trolling, being a lil piss-ant, and grow the **** up!

Just so people understand, Darth decided to be a lil putz and try to horde some support to slander this thread by posting this:

http://www.notebookforums.com/showpo...2&postcount=18

And again... bringing up another company when I said I had someone, and trying to get your forum pals to show off their work when I said I didn't want someone elses design IS OFF TOPIC.

For the last time.... Get The **** Out Of This Area. You do not belong here if you're going to wave around your Alienware rig in the Dell forum. This is called TROLLING, and it is against the rules.

Airbrushing of any kind is an art in itself. I paint/painted R/C Car bodies for the last 8 years, I use sentcils on 90% of my work. My painter that does my motorcycle's uses stencils for almost everthing and his paint jobs go for $4500-15,000. Every artist has his own style and technique. Unfortunalty stencils provide clean lines and yes makes life easier fo rthe artist, so what. If I could paint a mootorcycle and get 15k using stencils on most of the big parts then i would be doing it 24/7.

End of storytime.

Goodluck getting your airbrushing jax.

JaxChris I did try to get more people to this thread which was not fair to you. I apologize for that. I feel you were not being fair and actually kind of rude in the way you responded to my post. I was trying to give you an option. You could have handled it a bit better yourself (I am sure you can admit when you are wrong as well). We are talking about painting, not one make verses another. That is NOT trolling (even your mod said the entire thing is fair game EXCEPT for my getting other people involved which I already admit was wrong on my part). Look at my other posts in the Dell forum. Not very troll-like. I am very proud of the end result of Smooth's work on my rigs. I have no price related to the price (hell I wish I had paid much less because then I could buy other stuff).

And no, I will post whereever I please until requested to do so by a mod. I have every right to be in the Dell forums as much as you do. I am looking at a 30" Dell 3007 right now. My wife had two 2001fps on her desk.

Bottom line is you where wrong in the way you dealt with my post and by saying Smooth work is not art. I was wrong by trying to recruit others to come to this thread.

I'm not quite sure you realize...he wants ideas for HIS laptop that someone HE'S GOT is going to make for him. He's NOT looking for other companies to do his work.

It's really quite silly posting pictures of SmoothCreations still, or even talking about it when this thread doesn't concern em in any way.

This is exactly right. And since that point of this thread was completely ignored I'm not longer going to involve myself with this thread, it's now too far off topic for it to suit the purpose it was created for.

Thanks to all the people who ruined it. I'll go elsewhere for ideas.

Darth, I stepped out of bounds against Smooth Creations after you mentioned them. By you doing that, you started this thread in the totally wrong direction. Why would I want another company? I have a person I know that is ready to do the work. I tried telling you in my replies that I didn't want another company, and yes I flamed you and Smooth for your blatant ignorance of the original post. Then you followed that by bringing in other people to cheer on Smooth. That is quite pathetic. Again, thank you and the people you brought to this thread whom so effectively ruined it.

Oh well, I try to be helpful to others - and I now see what I get in return. Quite sad.

Jax why don't we just shake digital hands and try to start off on a better foot?
Not to contine the "disagreement" but I just found out about Smooth Creations last night and fired them off an email wanting ot get my new 710m painted the university of Oreogn green as pictured here, http://i.cnn.net/si/2003/sioncampus/.../lg_oregon.jpg
with the Oreogn "O" on the back. I got a response 4 minutes later! I had no idea they were based out of Oregon, but I am excited to do business with them. I might go with a really shiny dark black and "Oregon" written in the oregon nike font on the back since Oregon is going to have some black and white uniforms next year, and that oregon green is kind of flashy, this would be more sleek and refined.

Their work is amazing.

I can fully understand your frustration with the way this thread went - I was looking forward to reading through some interested ideas to see what you'd eventually go for but it was derailed almost immediately. Sadly I'm not creative enough to make any suggestions myself Make sure to get some pics in the Dell gallery when you get the laptop done.

Kinda need to know what you're into though. I mean, what kinda images do you want on it? Abstract? In-game scenes? Photos?
I'd put the Matrix Revolutions poster, or with Neo stopping bullets in the Chateau scene, but I have that on my XPS Personalization Shield cover.

Yea, I'm not overly creative either - hence the creation of the thread. I'm good and seeing what fits and things like that... but stopped having any artistic knowledge or ability long ago. I guess that is what happens when the logic side of your brain takes over everything. Once I finally get something done I'll post it up for you John.

As for what I'm into, that was in the original post. When it comes to what I'd want to see, it's hard to say. High quality rendered art always looks the best to me. It's better than in-game shots. Poster art is good because it utilizes high resolution rendering. Abstract can suck it in my opinion.

But also, creating a color scheme that would make any of my interests is good also. It doesn't just have to be a color and then some type of picture or logo slapped on it. That can be boring in itself.

I'd much rather come up with a good color scheme. Ideas of what colors to make each of the areas of the laptop that are already defined by the existing lines is great. That is what made the Alienware designs so appealing, they made use of more than one color with the existing lines and gave it a unique look.

Simple logo's can be applied with custom vinyl work that I can also get made for cheap, so it doesn't have to be an airbrushed design... thought my buddy can easily do any of that also.

I've been playing with the idea of matching the color schemes to a vehicle or industrial item that is prominent in one of my interests. Since most of the games I play are military, it would lend to having "signs of wear" airbrushed into the paint job.

Lately the idea has been to mimic the three-tone design of the New Conglomerate from Planetside. That's the side I play on. So I was looking at blue base color, primary details in yellow, and secondary details in silver. Which is what things look like on most of their vehicles. Then add in some airbrushed "wear n tear" and give it a semi-gloss finish. After that I'd probably have some vinyl overlays made to slap on - including NC logo, PS logo, and maybe something like a "Command Console" label made for the item.

Right now I really need some good neutral lighted shots of the 9300 that are details enough so that I can play around with hue lays in Photoshop to similate what different color schemes would look like. I'd so many angles taken though that it would be a huge picture to work with to see what it looks like from front/back, open/closed, side/side etc that I'm just starting to go over my head.

But I figured it I could create such a template file, that others might find it useful for helping them come up with custom paint jobs for their own system and make them more at ease to getting such a thing done to their system.

We'll see...

Here is an idea for your mod:

DB,

He said he wants a worn look. Since he like the Military games.
Think a tank paint job, or a dune buggy.

Something like this.

In the first post, there's the Robot "MegaTron", next to the kind of warrior worn out look.

I can't find anymore examples he might like.
Do you ?
