How to turn off Bluetooth without turning off WIFI?

Thread Starter
I just got the latest Widcomm drivers installed for my bluetooth module but I've found that unlike the Toshiba drivers I cannot simply disable it via the tray icon. If I try using the Fn+F2 buttons the WIFI would also be turned off. Using the device manager to disable the BT module only does it software wise and the blue light is still on.

I would like to be able to turn off BT to save more battery power whilst on WIFI.

Without a driver that is designed to talk to the Dell motherboard, hence being able to shut off power to the device at the hardware level, I don't see it being possible with your current driver.

But maybe another Widcomm user has figured that out. I just stripped down the Toshiba driver, like I did the Intel package, and things work fine for me.

just toggle bluetooth off under device manger (control panel, system) thats what I do

you can also shut down the secondary IDE to save more juice

Sorry to bring back an older thread. If you go into your bios down at the bottom is the option "Wireless". In there you can choose what FN+F2 will do. Either Turn on/off BT & WiFi, just BT, or just WiFi.

Yep JayBlay77 that'll do it... Maybe once I start using my Bluetooth more I'll write a batch file that'll shut it off using a FN+x command.... until that, JayBlay77's got the right idea, it is right in the BIOS

How to enable/disable bluetooth on a Dell E6410:

Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Select Device Manager (from left window pane). In the right window pane, "Unfold" the heading that says "Bluetooth Devices" . Under this heading are two lines on my computer: 1) Bluetooth Bus Enumerator, and 2) Dell Wireless 375 Bluetooth Module (note, they aren't numbered 1 and 2; I just did that for clarity).

Right click on the 2nd one (Dell Wireless 375..) -> select Properties -> go down to section named "Device Usage" (it's a dropdown). The options say: "Use this device (enable)" and "Do no use this device (disable)". Select the option you desire, and say "OK". It worked on mine..hopefully it works on yours!
