What about HP nx9420?

Hello. I´m interesting in this notebook, do you think is a good choice? There is no review yet (at least i couldn´t find it) but the specifications sound really nice (T2400, x1600, WSXGA, 3.35kg¡¡¡¡¡ (less than 7.5 lbs, could be?).

I think that can be compared with dell inspiron 9400/E1705, but right now with a better GPU.

How the HP screens are?

Thanks.

Mine shipped today so I should have some pictures and my impressions up soon. My specs are in my signature.

The HP Brightview Screens on previous notebooks I've owned has been outstanding.

Can I ask you how much you oay for it? I´m planing go to the States in a few months and buy the notebook there could be an option (if you live in the States¡¡ ) Thank you.

Ah what about the weight? is true?

its going to be around $2,300 for a model comparable to a decked out dv8000t.(although for some genius reason they decided not to offer the dv with a 7200rpm hard drive anymore)
if you want the better graphics card and you have the money, go for it.

Around $2050. It looks like they dropped the price $100 since I ordered.

As far the weight, mine will be here today so I will let you know. From what another guy said on notebookreview forums, he is still in shock over how light and portable it is for a 17".

Mine finally arrived:

First impressions are it's very light for a 17", it runs silent, it runs cool, and it's well built. I am making recovery dvds now so I will play with it more after that's done. Hope to do a clean install tonight to get rid of some of the pre-installed junk.

If you use dvds to make backup disks, will the disk drive be able to read the disks even though the decoders are gone, or are they built into the drive itself

is it completely black? or is there silver on the lid?

flashram, I'm wondering if I can get away with using the drivers from a 9420 for my dv8000t I just got (same boat as you, want it clean and fresh, tons of junk preloaded)

And if we compare this nice HP with a dell e1705/9400 which do you think is the best one?
( i have a nice deal for the dell RAM 2 gigas, WUXGA, 9 cell... for less than 1700$ and I am not sure what is the best option, mainly becouse dell has a ati X1400 instead of X1600)
Thank you.

Hello,

I had a look at some HP Pavilion notebooks in a store and was disappointed that the screens have a glossy finish which reflects light. This is not an acceptable choice for professionals (I suppose it is attractive for home users interested in DVD viewing and perhaps photo editing). Could you tell me if the HP Compac nx9420 has an anti-reflective coating? My current laptop is a PowerBook G4 17" which has an excellent screen, but I am considering the HP Compac nx9420 because I need to develop with some Windows tools.

Thank you, Sancho Neves-Graca

Dude the Dell sucks because it has an x1400. I just returned my x1400 laptop and ordered this HP with the x1600 instead. the x1600 is about twice as fast as the x1400. There's a special on the HP's right now... you can even get one for 1,399.00!

I would really be interested of some more pics and benchmarks.

id love a review too, cause i'm thinkin of buying on, but the releasedate in germany is in 2 weeks and i want to know if i should wait or buy another one

and it would be interesting to know if the fan is on all the time or just during heavy usage and if the noise is annoying and anything like that

I would love to hear more about this machine also. My main concern is about the screen quality. I have been using the Gateway m680 that has a nice screen but I am wondering if the 9420 is comparable to that or better as far as brightness and contrast? Look forward to hearing more. Thanks.

I'm interested in the brightness and contrast of the screen too. ZDNet review says this:

Quote:
As mentioned above, the nx9420's hallmark feature is its 17-inch wide-screen display. Though it's not as bright as the screens on other more entertainment-driven systems, such as the Toshiba Qosmio G35, the Sony AX series, or HP's new dual-lamp Pavilion dv8000, the nx9420's display is bright enough for most business tasks. An ambient-light sensor below the screen automatically adjusts the display's brightness level.
I'd like to do some vide/photo editing and play some games, so I wonder if "bright enough for most business tasks" is OK. My current desktop display is a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro and "Super Bright" mode is BLINDING.

Hey Flashram,

how is your new toy? Just have a quick question about how bright the screen is and as well, if the ATI X1600 does not produce any "noises" in dark tones of the colours of textures or graphics.

cheers

screen is adequately and decently bright. You have to turn off the automatic brightness control sensor, though.
