I was just on Rock Direct and found this little gem...

Its stats say it has a Core Duo and the Radeon x1800XT. Looks like a winner

How does that card perform compared to the go 7800gtx?
It would be crazy if you could get close to a desktop x1900xtx
performance..... mobile x1900 series

The x1800 performs at about the same level as the 7800 with all the advantages and disadvantages an ATi Card has.

so you think they will come out with a nvidia equivalent?

Yea, the lower voltage is the greatest plus. I wonder what kind of battery life that thing will get....

Not to mention Ati cards generally make a better picture than their Nvidia counterparts.

As for a Nvida equivilant, who knows. All they'd need to do is slap a Core Duo motherboard into a 5720. Maybe Luke can enlighten us.

how close are the x1800xt graphics compared to that of the 7800gt?

The x1800 uses fewer watts than a 7800. Which in theroy means you shouldnt be able to overclock it as well. But who knows what we'll see.

Lower wattage also means lower temperature and longer battery life which is a huge plus.

The x1800xt performs at about the level of the 7800gtx. They're equals.

HmmMmmMmmmm ive always been hesitant about ATI, decisions decisions

No need to be hesitant unless you're running linux. They're just as good as Nvidia.

is it hard to overclock it?

Download ATi tools and play with the sliders to overclock.

I'll wait till tests before saying the X1800 and the 7800 GTX are equals...

The X1900 mobile is supposed to one up the 7800GTX and thought I read somewhere (sorry I know I should have a link but can't be smart enough to save it all) that the X1800 was supposed to come in under the 7800GTX in performance (probably more like the 7800 Go vanilla) but with better power useage than the 7800 GTX.

Tests, though are the real deal and we should be able to test soon it looks like.

I dont know if this is any indication of price. But i was poking around a German site that had a duo core with 7800gtx and i configured it with a 2.0ghz, 2gig ram , and a 100gig 7200rpm HD and it was about the same price as the single core after doing the Euro to USD exchange rate
post #19 of 41
Will be about the same price, ~2500 loaded!!

x1800xt is usually equal and sometimes faster than 7800gtx, but wins in image quality!!.. and of course more battery life as Shadowmage said!

Would be better a x1900xt or xtx, lol.. heaven!! =)

I'm waiting this thing about 4 month!!.. and i've read some articles and even here at NF, that we probally will be able to upgrade to meron.. hope so!!..

The gpu costs about the same and the duos cost the same as the dothans... net result = should be similar price to existing model
