Looks like a 5720 with Core Duo will be out soon. - Page 2

I cant wait! This thing is perfect!!
How much more power will the duo core consume?
its supposed to save power, not use up more.
So you're telling me; 2 cores uses less power than a single core? That's quite baffling

Actually I think its a few watts more, but I'm not exactally sure.
damn it i want it to be announced !!
Looks like the announcement'll be soon judging by Eurocom's date (if they're not fudging it, that is):

lol, error 404. Maybe it was a fudge?
just go to eurocom.com and then click on future and its the 2nd model down
post #30 of 41
They must've just changed the page. Looks the same, but if you notice, when you follow LukeC's directions, the URL still says Eurocom.com instead of the page that I'd listed. Fiends

How much will our 3-4 months old 5720s lose on their price when dualcore version comes out? This is one upgrade i regret not being able to wait out...
Regardless of upgrades coming out, your machine will have depreciated enough to make anyone cry just by the fact of having purchased it. Kind of like driving a car off a dealer's lot.

Used selling price might be affected a bit by knowledgeable computer-types opting for a dual-core system instead of your regular P-M. However, regardless of dual-core debuting, your computer is still heads and tails above the everyman's laptop that you can pick up at Circuit City, Best Buy, etc., IMO. Depending on who you're aiming to sell it to, you might not be in as bad of a position as you think. But, like I said at first, it all comes down to the fact that it's going to depreciate a lot no matter what

Stay away from ATI on the mobile front. While ATI makes a good card, nVIDIA is setting the standard right now...

ATi offers better battery life through lower power consumption, and much lower heat output and still giving performance about equal to Nvidia cards, depending on the case. I dont see either company as better, but we should all have all the facts

Well I'm not refering to power consumption or thermal dynamics, I am refering to architectural design. Right now, nVIDIA is on the absolute forefront of GPU technology, nVIDIA is truly setting the standard in the industry right now. It wasn't so long ago when ATi was in the lead, so it's always a horse race which is what promotes the development of the technology in the first place.

I honestly do not think the latest ATi mobile GPU will deliver the performance the 7800 Go GTX does. The Go GTX will go down is history as the card that evened the playing field between laptop and desktop GPU's.

hummm.. i think u are a nvidia fan!.. np on this! =)

but the true is, x1800xt is equal to 7800gtx even in some cases win, and image quality is far best over 7800gtx, besides the number speak for themselves.

look i am not a ati lawer, but they did a hell of job on these.

and for the end.. the x1900xtx will be much much better... i would like to see this in my new 5270 duo core!... maybe nvidia has something on the fridge!

I love the frames and image quality if the ATi's...problem is their driver support. Considering Omega still hasn't been hired to keep us gamers happy (as he writes the best game drivers for the Catalysts) leads me to believe they just don't get it.

I have had ATi's in my last two laptops...my desktops have always had Nvidia cards and there has been no comparison. The Nvidia driven systems I've had have never had a problem loading any game. The ATi setup has been different...lots of problems in games. All driver based issues. The hardware itself is great. But the compatibility with games...yek

Either way, I'm sold on the next gen of 5720 and will surely give both the X1800 and the 7900 a shot before I make my final decision. Seeing as how the 7900 has been announced: http://www.rojakpot.com/showarticle....tno=305&pgno=5

Craig i love you even though you make me a sad panda

I'll second that having used both, and been involved for years in online games watching all the hardware as it ages, meaning someone installs a nice new game on a 2 year old card.

Nv has compatibility down. It's not perfect, so don't think I'm saying that at all. But ATI is like buying a Jaguar in the car world. It's fast, it's nice looking, but the Lexus just kills it in year after year of happy ownership. There is a REASON that they keep dropping new Catalyst drivers month after month. With Nv I know you can have an old Geforce card and load up the latest stuff and it may not run fast but it at least runs. Even in these forums you constantly have people writing in about older ATI hardware and how xxx stops running or has issues in loading, crashing, etc. I really love ATI's picture quality, and the things they can do in hardware are amazing. But to me, and this is not everyone for sure, I value the card I can stop worrying about. I like to know that when a machine is in the tech dog house and is a year or two old, that as long as I've kept up on drivers, I've got zero worries about installing new stuff. And if there is an issue Nv patches critical stuff fast.

ATI isn't vastly second rate. And I want to be sure to emphasize that. It does a great job and you aren't totally screwed if you buy the ATI part. But if you want to talk about what is the gold standard on compatibility and durability over years of use, Nv is that standard.

Anyway where was that topic again?

I have seen no hard evidence of the X1800XT equalling the 7800 Go GTX in performance. When I see that card do what the 7800 Go GTX can in real world gaming, then I will be a believer. The truth in chip architecture will determine if the X1800XT can be OC'd well or not, if the chip's OC frequency to core voltage threshold is high enough, voltage will not be as much of a factor as some think it will be with regard to OCing, similar to the Pentium M's incredible OC frequency to default voltage ratio. P-M's can be OC'd exponentially with default core voltage.

The 7900 Go GTX is not worth upgrading to in my opinion, I will wait for the G80.

I am going to upgrade to Dual Core (CPU/MOBO) ASAP, the 5720 IMO is Sager's best all-around offering, I guess I am just biased.

ATi has some R&D to do, the cards do well in consumer benchmarks, but I have seen something different when performing my own tests.

IMO, nVIDIA is the only way to go, at least for the immediate and near future.
nVIDIA has even broken ground in the medical imaging field, they are truly doing some amazing things right now...

Good Luck
