Dell Latitude D620

All I can say is it seems expensive for what it is and magnesium exoskeleton, does that mean the casing is magnesium as per M70 or does that mean its like my D610 where it has a cast magnesium subframe covered with plastic casings, exoskeleton to me means a frame on the outside, pretty strange term to use.
Anyway those specs don't do a great deal for me,unless you can save money by not having things like fingerprint reader, evdo, and add things like a video card you can game with.
the fingerprint reader is optional, but I dont think it will offer any cards like the 7800.

It is a business notebook afterall, its for well doing work. And its hard to make doing wok sexy.

IIRC, the 620 and 820 will have options for dedicated nvidia quadro cards (7400 or so)

is the d620 on sale on some dell website?
not till about the end of the month

Mind if I ask you why did you replaced your M70 with a D610?

Not at all,I was asked by the same person who bought my previous M60 if I had another M60 or M70 for sale and as I had stopped using Solidworks about 4 months previously saw it as an opportunity to regain as much money from resale as it was still current tech. The D610 cost me about a third of what the M70 was so I thought I would buy one to use until the new models came out which is looking more and more like a disappointment to anyone who wants to play pc games on anything other than a 17",I thought that Dell would compete with acer and asus in the 15.4 and 14" models this time around but its not looking like that will be the case,so I was probably better off keeping the M70 in retrospect and retrofitting a 7800 in it,but its looking now like I will have to buy acer or asus as I refuse to be forced to buy a 17" by Dell to get reasonable games horsepower[eg X1600 or preferably 7600 or better]

I have read somewhere that the M90 will be 17" as well so looks like Dell has totally given up producing a 15.4 grunter.

I was reading in another thread that you had tried a 7800 in your M70 and had a few probs, did you get that sorted?

Maybe Dell will offer dedicate graphics in the e1505 / 6400 shortly, then you'll have a 15.4" laptop with discrete graphics for gaming.

I reckon the whole Exoskeleton thing is the author trying to sound like he knows what he's talking about so he uses big words. He's using the word exo-skeleton incorrectly as it usually only applies to biological organisms, not technological creations.

However, I beleive that since the bulk of the outer shell is tri-metal alloy. It's framework is probably part of the outer shell rather than being a seperate structure. I wouldn't know until I get the chance to tear one apart.

The graphics options should be suitable for gaming on the go, but definitely won't make you throw out your desktop. I'm willing to part with a little graphics HP to get docking station functionality and better construction. I just really don't like the Inspirons. They aren't as sleek as the D Series latitudes IMO. Either way I order from small business so its not like I'm missing any service and support going for one or the other.

Does Dell support differ depending on whether you order from the Home or Small Business side?

Nope, altough I didn't tried that hard due to lack of time. I still have the 7800 around.

The site 'under construction' for anyone else? I had to go to the google cached page.

EV-DO and HSDPA are adding $404 to the price, so without them the system they reviewed would only be $1501. That's completely in line with the D610 pricing at Dell.com, a D610 with 14" XGA, GMA900, 2.0GHz P-M, 1GB ram and DVD burner came up to $1511.

Battery life looks good, 4 hours 25 min on the 6-cell, so the extended 9-cell main battery plus modular bay battery should get 10 hours fairly easily.

I'd like to know what other business laptops they were evaluating in the review?

Is that the fricken battery protruding from the front? Well that sucks! Maybe it's the 9 cell battery?

Nevertheless, I like the 220 nits brightness on the WXGA+. Definitely like a nice bright screen.

Willing to bet the 4-cell and 6-cell are flush, the 9-cell is extended. I'd rather have the option of a larger capacity battery sticking out than being stuck with only the 6-cell main. From the pdf mikemex linked:
Quote:
Hauptakku: Li-Ionen-Akku (9 Zellen/85 Wh) Unterstützt ExpressCharge™ mit 90-Watt-Netzteil
Sekundärer Li-Polymer-Akku (6 Zellen/56 Wh) mit ExpressCharge™
That's 141 watt-hours with the extended battery and secondary modular bay battery! The review managed 4 hours 25 min on the 6-cell, which works out to 12.68 watts per hour. At that rate we're looking at 11 hours on battery with the WXGA screen and GMA950. The brighter WXGA+ and dedicated video card will cut that down a bit, but that's still really good battery life.

I've been waiting for a 14" wscreen with WXGA+ resolution. I just need the extra room, but I might opt for the D820 if it is lighter and smaller than the D810. I had a D810 but it was just too big to haul around.

Strange how all the leaks seem to revolve around the D620 and you don't see anything on the D820. If some of the specs I've see for the D820 are correct, it may be a better option than the D620. Not much heavier than the previous D610 but with larger LCD and better resolution options... and vid card...
The 820 will be lighter and thinner than the 810. it's vidoe card will be a quadro 110 or 120 wile the 620 will only offer the 110.

The 120 will be a hypermemory card "up to 512 MB" so it'll have 256 onboard.

(I've heard (from lesser sources than the above info) that the 120 is basically the 7400 go, but I've also heard it will be ~the 7600 go.... my guess is 7400 level, unfortunately)

I'm waiting to see the specs when they are released. No question that the WXGA+ on the 15.4" D820 will be more comfortable to use than the WXGA+ on the 14" D620. On the one hand your talking 1680 X 1024 and the other will be 1440 X 900.

Would you agree with this? Of course, I don't know anyone that has a WXGA+ in the 14" wscreen, so it's hard to assess right now.

I'm curious if all the other specs will be similiar other than the vid card?

I bet that's nothing more than a poor crop job on part of the graphic artist that made that PDF. The photos from that review did not show anything protruding from the front and made no mention of the 9 cell battery even protruding. Heck, the extended batteries on the D600 and D610 didn't extend out from the Laptop, don't see why that would change with the D620.
