Thanks for your review Grafix... I read in your thread review that you had a 2.0ghz proc. Would that make a big difference?

Additionally... do you think notebooks of mid-2007 will be able to outperform my current rig (see sig)? And by then, do you think software will have caught up with the performance of hardware, to affect the performance negatively?

How fast do you think a 2.26ghz M proc would do?

No doubt about it, the notebooks of "EARLY" 2007 will absolutely drown your current rig.....not saying there is anything wrong w/ ur current rig, just that the jumps in tech in q4 2006 and q1 2007 will be larger than most as we will upgrade technologies not just release enhancements to existing technology.

Read up a bit on the dual cores, they're amazing. Simply put. Very simply put. Quad cores I can't even imagine.

I just double checked my review and no where does it say I have a 2.0, I assure you it's the 1.83ghz. I dunno that it is going to make that much of a difference to be honest but I can't say that for sure.

As far as laptops beating a Dual Zeon setup... There are laptops out there now that are almost caught up. Thing is they weigh 13-14 pounds and probably will continue to be that way. I doubt any smaller laptops are gonna have that kind of CPU power, they will stick to Mobile type chips of what ever is out next year. The Dual Cores and such will be put in bigger laptops more than likely. (not saying only the size of the 7700 but more like in the 15.4" thicker laptops Dells ect..). This is only my opinion though and I'm not a fortune teller anything could happen.

On a related note, just read a review showing 2ghz core duo outperforming 3.8ghz AMD FX 64

eh.... That even possible? Link...
post #48 of 53
yes its possible
amd has long competed w/ intel on cpu's running a smaller clock
the first edition centrinos competed w/ intels own desktop chips at half the clock
Speed in terms of hertz used to be important or a clear indicator of overall power but that myth has been debunked for several years now - since amd finally caught up to the power of p4's on chips w/ 2/3 the clock

class dismissed

And when merom comes out it will be even better as they migrate to 65 nano's

Hmmm... then in that case I find it interesting how AW hasn't made the switch from M to Duo yet. Well, I guess it's because they just released their line of laptops, so they're waiting for duo.

They have to clear stock of old stuff first

Yeah, kind of like what they did with the old Sentia... those "last chance" sales.
