FX7 Keeps Restarting

So I'm watching some streaming video from Comcast earlier today and my FX7 suddenly froze. I restarted my notebook thinking nothing of it. Windows loaded back up and a minute later it froze again! I kept trying to reboot it but it kept freezing.

It seems as though the problem has worsened because now my notebook is either freezing or rebooting on its own BEFORE Windows can even load up. I thought maybe if I did a full reinstall of everything but that won't work since the system keeps freezing/restarting. The notebook will randomly freeze/restart any time- during boot up, while in the BIOS menu, when in safe mode.

I'm thinking something is wrong with my motherboard or possibly my hard drive. I have 2 sata 7200rpm 100gb hard drives in raid 0 format. Maybe the Raid 0 caused a problem?

Any ideas? I'm waiting to hear back from tech support at this time.

I could be a bad memory card. To get a good test of your memory go to http://www.memtest86.com. You will find a downloadable ISO to burn to a CD. Let this test run at least 3 times. If a memory board is bad, this should find it. If not, Hypersonics support or Pat will need to help ya.

Note: The ISO creates a bootable CD, just put it in your drive and let it do its thing.

Dranzaz provided my recommendation as well. I had a similar problem like this with a system at work and the first thing I was recommended to do from the techs was run this test. It takes a bit to run, but it will provide the information they need to tell whether there is a problem or not with your memory.

One last question - is it rebooting frequently, or mostly just freezing/shutting down? If the latter is the case, check your fans out and ensure they are spinning. If it isn't a memory problem and the system is freezing up/shutting down, it could be that a fan is stuck or not working, thus overheating the system (CPU, GPU, etc). Just a thought. I do remember reading in the Sager forum about problems with the intel version (same case) of people having stuck fans. Just something to think about.

Good luck!

Sorry guys, I fixed this problem long ago and never posted the cause of the rebooting. It turned out that one of my 1 gig sticks of corsair ram crapped out. The rebooting stopped once I removed the bad stick of ram. That's all it was!

Glad it all worked out for ya. Last week mine developed a simular issue. As I did not get the Corsair memory option, I had gotten "Apacer" memory. 1 ended up failing.

Kudos to Hypersonic. I called tech support and explained my troubleshooting and results. They agreed the memory was my issue. After getting my P/N & S/N, they Advance Replaced my failed stick, or so I thought. In actuallity, they shipped me 2 new 1 Gig sticks from another manufacturer. Reason, they don't like mixing vendors and since they didn't have any Apacer in stock, I get 2 new sticks from vendor they have in stock. YAAAAAAAHHHHH

As far as Corsair is going, 2 people I work with swear by Corsair. Normally I would to. But lately I have had a bad feeling about them. And it all decided to hit. Both of these people buy nothing but Corsair, normally with no issues. But the last round of "upgrades" (read one-up-on-the-other competition) resulted in a bad 1 Gig stick for Person #1. They RMA'd it. while waiting, other stick failed and she was without a PC for 4 days. RMA'd memory came. 2 weeks later Person #2 developed a memory issue also, RMA'd. While waiting, Person #1's replacement sticks failed, Both at 1 time. All I could do was laugh. They have both received their replacement parts and are going strong for about 2 months now.

Ok I just want to double check this.

I have an EX7 and I get as far as the Nortons Go Back screen and next thing is a "You have an unstable system message". Either hardware or software. I was successful in getting into the windows but about a minute later it froze, and I get the endless re-boot cycle.

Now I know it cant be software, adobe pdf file upgrade cant do that, and I had it working for me all yesterday without any problems. I run it for approx 6-7 hours a day. It really is my dt replacement. Fortunately I do have my backup riggs but they are not the same.

Now I have had this machine running since August 05. I have not had ANY problems ever until now.

I have already emailed support about tbe problem so Pat if you can think of anything else other than memory, I would like to know. Other than that I am going through Hyper-withdrawal syndrome and need a quick fix ASAP.

Need suggestions please.

Thanks.

Check your memory sticks. If you have 2, remove one, and operate your system as normal. If the lockups happen, swap to the other stick. If the lockups continue, call hypersonic (don't e-mail, your get a faster response). Hopefully its just a bad stick on RAM.

Since you have had the system since Aug. 2005, I am unsure about your warranty. If its expired, newegg.com or crucial.com should be able to provide quality memory for the price. If you purchased the extended warranty of 2-3 years, hypersonic will RMA your memory (generally advance replacement when secured with a credit card).

It does sound like a memory issue.

Then again, I remember some customers having issues with Norton Go Back on their systems.
It would report errors, then all of a sudden the Windows install would be corrupted. Then the recovery disk wouldn't work with it either. It was a mess. They would end up having to install windows from scratch.

pat.

I use to be a big GO-Back fan......but I found out that Ghost works better and saves rsources....I wouldnt use Go-Back in a Raid set-up at all....I have also found that Go-Back although a decent recovery software can lead to problems...you have to disable it whenever doin a system Defrag or it could cause corrupt system files and you should clear its history every so often.....If I was you I would dump Go-Back and try Ghost......or just keep back-ups on CD;s or DVD;s..........I will admit Go-Back saved me alot of times with my first 2 computers...but I have learned alot and now dont need it.....its basicaly a begginers tool/software..although it is 110% better than Windows System Restore

I did test for mem and it wasnt ram. I then tried recovery disk and it did not acknowledge a HD. Same thing happened when I tried windows reload it got as far a the agreement page and when I said yes it went to the Stop blue screen.

I am now noticing that the light on top to signal HD activity is not on.

BTW Hype got back to me quickly via my email. If they were open on Saturday I would be at their front door with my EX7 (Am in NJ so a train ride to Great Neck would not take long.)

I emailed Support with my details and am waiting for the next move.

Pat if you guys take walk ins I'll be on my way. Cheaper than shipping.

UPDATE: It was the NORTONS GO BACK!!

Will be saving a train ride then, thanks Pat I managed to disable it now I am going to remove it from my system completely.

Thanks Mountain for the tip as well.

You may want to do a fresh install after removing GO-Back, even though you uninstall it, there could still be files and reg. entries lurking around.....if you realy want a Good System Back-Up Software, Check out Nortons Ghost.
But I would wipe my system clean and zero out the hard drive after I removed Go-Back and do a frsh /clean install of everything, this time leaving G--Back off, you can also use the back-up utilty in XP to make back-ups...I would also keep system restore disabled ..it too can cause system problems when used.....

Yes am way ahead of you on this. The minute I was up and running I did a complete wipe and reinstall. Everything works perfect now.

Funny that they made Ghost as if they knew something was a little wrong with Go Back??
