Also I used old drivers for x700 that came laptop and the omega catalyst 6.2 i think was still same thing

Perhaps HP is aware of the overheat problem and stop selling DV4000 with x700. Mine has a very similar configuration as yours, but I clock down the video just in case and I use nhc to undervolt the laptop for lower heat production.

I haven't had any overheating problems.

I would call Compaq, as this could be a cooling problem. Apart from that I have never heard of a Pentium M ever getting that hot so I think that it is probably a cooling defect.

FYI. The GPU can get really hot if you run it at 400MHz. Usually the laptop manufacturer underclock the GPU a bit to reduce heat and prolong battery life.

You can force it in Powerplay, or you can use Notebook Hardware Control 1.10b2..

Yes. Actually in France they are scared because 24 people have died because of the heat wave. Here in Mexico we have 32 states, and only in 1 of them 29 people have died. So I think we have worst problems than France.

Billcsho: How is your dv4000 doing? Do you have any overheating issues?

Now my dv4000 gets warm even when it's running at 787MHz. Imagine how much hot it gets when gamming, IF I can actually game, because this laptop turns itself off!

Up until about 3 weeks ago I hadn't even turned on the A/C.... Turned it on because my overtemp alarms were going off on my desktop on the hard drive carriers.

I shudder to think what temps a laptop would be running due to the confined case /small airspace around laptop components.

Hola Amigo,

As of last Saturday, there were over 135 people died in California because of the heat. We are having over 100F (38.9C) in heat index (with humidity considered) here in Michigan which is almost unheard of. I am running my DV4000 in my office right now with air-conditioning and it is still only 42-45C (at 800MHz, 0.812V). I am running it over 18 hours a day without a cooler most of the time. If I leave it run overnight at home with AC power, I usually plug in the Antec Cooler. Last time I forgot to plug in the power adapter, the cooler drained the 12-cell battery in less than 2 hours (cf 4.5hr without cooler). The cooler typically drops 10C in the CPU temperature, and of course, it will now go below ambient temperature+15C.

Yes, I read in the newspaper they were 132 people who died. It's pretty bad.

I will have to buy a laptop cooling pad, but that won't help that much, 'cause I like to play some games when I'm on a trip and a cool pad won't be such a good idea.
