Lol, did a search for Voodoo and this company called M-Tech came up on top saying they can build you a comperable FX-60 notebook for $1000 less. You have a mail in warranty and you can only get 3 years if you order over $4000.

And moving on...

OK, Voodoo is insanely overpriced. Same config, AW and Hypersonic $5000, Voodoo $6900.14.

Dell's cheaper, but only offers Intel Pentium M 2.26 GHz and no Raid.

Gateway only offers the Centrino, 1.66 ghz, GForce Go 7600. 512MB ram. Didn't think they were offering big dogs but had to check.

Falcon's like Voodoo. 6700 for the same machine and they don't even offer the 7800 GTX, just the 7800 go. Coolest web site though.

Sager is the same price/configuration as AW and Hypersonic but only a 2 year warranty through Philips Magnavox and they charge you $200 for the 0 dead pixel guarentee which is good for 30 days only.

Looks like Sager and Hypersonic offer the best configuration and the same price, wheras AW is about $300 more. They should be the same, they're essentially the same machine. I heard Hypersonic just resells Sagers. Hypersonic and Sager have the pixel perfect guarentee, sager only guarentees 30 days, calling to see how lonhg hypersonic lasts. Sager has a 2 year warrenty through a different company. Hypersonic has 3 year warranty on parts and accident (I know I've said this before, just summing up). Hypersonic says they will ship their pre-configured systems in 1-2 days with 1 day air. They have a 72 hour burn in.

I did read two complaints about Hypersonic packaging causing some damage in transit, but they were from early '05.

Anyone have anywhere else I should check? I have some time before the refund.

no hypersionic builds their own machiones. you are probably thinking of pc torque, which is a seller of sagers,(also probably a lot cheaper, but id rather have a hyper or an aw)

Yes they are, but Alienware uses a unique cover, and I would imagine the difference in cost is due to Alienware's testing program, and overhead due to their size and support.

I can tell you I'd rather deal with AW support than any of these smaller companies, and I'm confident when I receive an Alienware that all the hardware has been tested and certified before it's offered as a configuration option, and it's been run in as a built unit.

If you're going to go through this kind of convolutions over a couple hundred dollars and support isn't an issue for you, cancel the AW already and go to Hypersonic.

Let us know what you decide, and if Hypersonic can deliver, or if they're just blowing smoke up everyone's butt again.

They are all Clevo base platforms. The peripheral hardware is chosen and added by the individual manufacturers, and the support is different.

I think what Chode Messiah meant was that Hypersonic, like Alienware, buy the base platform from Clevo then add their own hardware. I'm not sure, but I believe that PCTorque resells Sagers, so Sager is the company that does the assembly in that case.

No, there's other companies like Uniwill that also make base platforms that other manufacturers build on.

My 5500 is a uniwill, as is the current version I believe. The 7700 line is Clevo based.

Depends on what you call a gaming laptop. The m7700 and similar models are Clevo-based. The other 17" models are not necessarily Clevo. Don't believe the Dell XPS is a Clevo, not sure about the m5700, but I know the m5500 is a Uniwell chassis...

I'm still looking at PCTorque, they price slightly lower, have the accident and pixel perfect warenties and all. Am still leaning towards Hypersonic for the pre-built configuration being in stock and the quick turn arround time after order.

Have you not read all the complaints in the Hypersonic section about missed ship dates and lack of information from the company?

Read posts about missed ship dates? There's whole forums devoted to the Alienware Phase game! Alienware is the king of missing ship dates. Hell, talk about their support or their longevity, bring up a stong point. But missing ship dates? Alienware has the lead on that. When I canceled my order the rep flat out admitted that they can't keep up with the demand they are getting, that's why they have all the delays. Man, pick your fights a bit more carefully, ship dates are AW achilles heel.
