When you're not using your internal card readers for loading pictures or files, I highly suggest leaving a "back up" card inside. I'm currently using the small 16mb SD card that came with my camera, and I run SyncBack to back-up preselected folders (and its contents) to the card. It works great because if your harddrive fails, you've got a media that doesn't rely on electricity to store its information
