New 710m quick ship

I ordered a 710m with 2.0ghz Pentium M, 1GB memory, 100GB hard drive, wireless, 3 yr warranty, pretty much top of the line for $1549 ($750 discount on $1999+ Inspirons... which leads me to beleive that dual cores are on their way).

Placed order Thursday morning and it shipped on Monday. WOOT!!!! Promise ship date was March 24. They beat it by 5 days! Who says Dell sucks. Last year I bought an Inspiron 6000d, a XPS400 for my wife and a Axim X51v. I've had nothing but good experiences with Dell. My 6000d is going to my son (to heavy for me to lug around) and I'm anxiously awaiting the 710m.

BTW - I was about to purchase an Alienware Sentra with less memory and smaller hard drive for $500 more until the online sales support folks pissed me off. I asked a silly question of "why can't I order it with 1x1GB instead of 2x512MB to get a gig?" They said to get that configuration I had to call sales. I did and the answer was "that configuration isn't available online". Then why the @#$@#$ did they tell me to call. Oh... and their financing... 21.6%APR and although the approval was instant they required me to wait for paperwork to sign and mail back before I could place my order. They did say they would hold my order if I gave them an approval number. HOLD MY ORDER? Like it my custom build was going anywhere. They gave me an excuse to buy more for less.

Love my Dell's

Customer Support

I've never had problems with customer support. I bought a Dell Axim X3 and two weeks later the X30's come out. I call up customer support and the gave me a RMA and sent out a new X30. About a year later I got a white screen and lock up. I had purchased the Advance Replacement plan. Yes when I called I got someone in India but the very next day there was a package at my door... my replacement X30.

My last Dell before the ones I bought last year was an T600r which was an old Pentium III. I had a modem go out and they sent a tech to my house to replace the modem.

I build my own boxes and only bought an XPS400 for my wife because in her words... "I've never had a name brand computer". Like that really matters. She was married to 24/7 tech support. Anyway... she loves her XPS.

I actually looked at building my own laptop... yes you can do that now... with a MSI barebones but with Dell's deep discounts I had a hard time matching dollar for value. Maybe when I build a gaming laptop...

Sorry you had problems with Dell... I think most have good experiences hence their absence on a support bulletin board.

Woo hoo!!! I can't wait for the new "E1205" to be released!!! Who knows... maybe then, they may even come up with a massive discount to clear the stocks of the 710m. I know this is silly of me but maybe instead of getting a new 12" duo core laptop, I might just end up with a 710m to "complement" my 700m!!! What a pair of twins that will be!!!

Update...
My loaded 710m was ordered Thursday, Shipped Monday, out for delivery today! Now that was quick. Delivered 4 days before promised ship date and all with free shipping and $750 discount!!! WOOT!!!!

Spent last night scrubbing garbage off my i6000d so I could give it to my son. He's giddy too! He had an old Gateway Solo 1400 (800mhz Celeron). Now he gets my old 6000 with the ATI x300 video card (I will miss that on the 710m but I won't miss the extra 3 pounds and bulk).

Feeling giddy!!!!

Got my baby last night. It's wicked small! Gotta get my fat fingers used to the keyboard but other than that it's awesome. Much lighter than my 6000d.

Hey storm, notice any white thin line that flashes while the puter is going through the boot up process? See my thread about it, another poster reported that his computer also has it and I am trying to get a consesus if it is a normal thing or something is wrong.

Haven't noticed it. I do get a quick post message before Windows loads but don't have time to read it completely... something about PBR I think.

Early observations. I really don't like how the battery is stuck on the back. I got the 8 cell and it hangs off the back just waiting for an accidental breaking. Seems a bit more plastic than my 6000... I'm sure for weight considerations. Everything else is cool.

Does anyone have the 35w/hr battery? How far does it stick out the back?
