Does anybody know what companies sell Clevos in Hong Kong? My friend wants to buy one but wants a company that supports a warrenty and stuff. Thanks!

This is not HK but remotely in the same area...

I might be headin' to Taiwan in the near future, so I've got similar thoughts of trying to buy something while I'm there. Gah, what to do...

I'm considering travelling through HK or Bangkok to Europe this year and would also love to pick up a good priced system there. Any suggestions?

I can't say about Europe, but I've been to Bangkok. One thing- if you bought in Bangkok, you're basically done, IMO. There'll be no tech support there (altho' if I bought in Taiwan, I might be in the same boat; However, Taiwan's got a greater ratio of English speakers, I believe, so it'd at least be easier to try).

One thing that Bangkok does have is software. At least, when I'd visited last ('98), piracy was rampant in BKK & Kuala Lumpur. I doubt it's changed much. Not sure if I'd trust a major notebook purchase from BKK, tho'. While software will be dirt cheap (the real thing won't be), I don't know that hardware will be the same. I suspect it'll be just as spendy as anywhere else.

Fried Toast, Thanks for the advice. Purchasing from the USA (PCTorque) seems like the best idea for me here in New Zealand. I will be using the system for work while I'm on holiday in Europe, so I wouldn't want to risk getting a system in Europe or Asia unless I was absolutely sure it was going to work out.
Just for a comparison on prices, A local retailer here is selling a D430 (http://www.ascent.co.nz/mn-product-spec.asp?pid=118357) for USD$1,681.57, while PCTorque has 5680s for 1595.44 (less shipping and duty to get it here). Of course, the low USD accentuates this difference at the moment.
FYI: After searching the forum a bit, it looks like STAMP may be a Clevo brand in HK.

No 5680, 8890, 4780 in HK...

There's some clevo stuff in HK..but the weak kind..the kind that a jet-setting accountant would use...

You'll find a couple models at Stamp Computers (either Mong Kok or Wan Chai computer centers) but they'll be the watered-down variety.

I'm about (?) to buy a 5680-C, but the RMA business has me scared. Does anyone know if I can take a Sager to a Clevo repair center? I'm going to be in Beijing for next little while and they've got a Clevo center there...knowing that they'll take my sager would be a bit of a relief considering that I've been dreading having to rma my sager from China.

God..been at the confirmation page for an hour now and no signs of leaving my chair. Help me decide, God.

Ok, I can leave my chair now

The deed is done...I'll pay monday, then enter into "listless bug-eyed zombie" mode at work until my new sager arrives.
