[?Comparable?]

I'm wondering, when it comes to portability, is the Area-51 5500m and the Area-51 5700m even comparable to the Sentia?
The Sentia is a thin & light system and when it comes to processing power it has the same Pentium M processors than the 5500m and the 5700m.

The difference is that the 5500m and the 5700m provide the option for adding dedicated NVIDIA gaming cards for handling games and applications for which integrated video cards (like the Sentias have) have not enough power to handle.

Besides those differences, the 5700m has a 17" screen and offers the NVIDIA 6800go.

the difference is weight,price,video card

I'm aware of the differences, I just want to see if the 5500/5700 are incomparably big compared to the Sentia.

the 5500 aint that big, and for the performace it brings to the table,, id get it instead unless i need ultraportability. 6600 pwns integrated. 7600 should be coming out soon too.

Yeah, but the 5700 is as bag as my 17" monitor, pretty much, correct? Do you actually have the 5500?

You're looking at the 12" Sentia, aren't you? It really seems like a big jump from that size to the 15.4" 5500. If you're looking at a 14" one, that isn't too big of difference. I can't really comment on the 5500's size yet though. Mine just shipped today(!) so I can give better feedback on its size later this week.

I bought my 5500 for taking to class and stuff at college, so I hope it's portable!

This picture from Alienware's site shows a nice comparison.

I'm looking at the 12". When you get your 5500, tell me how portable it is!

I just got my tracking numbers. Expected delivery date of Thursday. Just three days. I'll be sure to tell you how portable it ends up being.

Alright, much appreciated.

I have the 5500, I consider it quite portable to be honest. Take in mind my last computer was a 10 pound 1st generation Dell XPS so this thing is super portable to me; but truthfully I think it's plenty portable and more than you can ask for in a package this small. Couple that with a nice small backpack (messenger bag in my case) and more than reasonable battery life when running on the integrated video card and you've got a wonderful package.

I got my laptop.

It isn't too heavy, but I couldn't imagine getting the larger 5700 with how big the screen is on the 5500. I've gotten a little over 2 hours on the battery using the integrated graphics so far. This is with just using internet, though I have the screen kinda bright.

The power of the 5500 is great. Speedy little thing.

Hmmm... I'm still unsure of myself. You see, a have an old Sony VAIO in the house that's just as wide as the 5500... and it looks huge and weighs a lot. Not sure how to truly guage how much the weight of the 5500 is.
Well, I just went and weighed mine on the bathroom scale. It really is just around 6 lbs.

Truthfully, I'd go with the 12" Sentia for ultra portability. I got the 5500 for more of a desktop replacement because I can't take my desktop to college.

Despite the fact that it isn't as powerful as the 5500, the only difference is the memory and processor, which can be achieved with the 14" model. But honestly, the 14" is almost as big as the 5500, so I'd go with that.

But really, my needs would only be web development and the basics. And I would expect that college would have no room for gaming, but it seems on the contrary!

if you are not going to use this for gaming or you going to using your desjtop for gaming then i would go with the sentia

the 6600 is more future proof, and would be better for photoshop work. plus should you wanna bust out a game, u can play anything on the market. (oblivion and fear at slightly lower settings though)

Oblivion. By God, that thing's unstable even on the 360.

I think you meant 7700.

I've been working on my review. I'll hopefully get it posted this weekend.
