DVD Drive Beep

Thread Starter
Whenever I am using my DVD drive (just the ROM not the RW) I can hear it spinning up rather loudly and then I hear somewhere between 2-5 beeps coming from the the system (i.e. not from the actual speakers). Does anyone know what this could be? Also, I noticed that my keyboard is kind of loose on the right side and when I type and use the drive, it seems to be beep more times. I am pretty much baffled here.

well for the keyboard issue check out adams thread in this forum aptly titled "If your keyboard is a little loose" (it's stickied and stays right at the top or close to it with the other stickys), as for the dvd drive beeping never experienced that (Im not sure which 1 you have, if you have the combo dvd/cd-r or the dvd writer.. i have the combo and only problem I have with it is it keeps the volume label of the first cd you put in it after boot until you reboot even if you swap cds... the next 1 will have same label even though if you click on it the contents are for the right cd...

I believe the beeps is actually clicking from the drive head as it powers up. It's present on desktop cdroms as well, you can watch the thing blink and make noises when you first apply power, regardless of whether the IDE's attached or not. I think its safe to ignore them.
