How to disassemble Z70va

Thread Starter
Before anyone flames me for not using the search function, I did. I found an ASUS Z70va disassembly manual online but I was unable to figure out how to remove the black trim around the keyboard. It says in the manual to unhook it with tweezers but try as I might, I could not figure it out. I am not a total retard and have worked on other notebooks before but the trim has me stumped -- does it just pop out? I started to pry it but did not want to break it so I held back. I want to get to the GPU in order to put AS5 on it since it runs a bit hot. When I changed the CPU I also noticed that the fan for the CPU was really clogged with dust so I thought that I'd clean the GPU fan as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can just pop it up from left and right.

Please, I also want to clean my GPU fan\heatsink & would greatly appreciated some input on this. I've found a service for the Asus M600 series, which is similar:

http://www.encke.net/encke/modules.p...q=getit&lid=11

Hope that helps. However, it doesn't show how to access the GPU

Your email address didn't work.

Here is the complete disassembly guide and do it at your own risk:

Well, I was able to clean my GPU heatsink and CPU heatsink and apply some Arctic Silver 5 to them both. At first, my laptop was dead silent! However after about 15 minutes, the GPU fan kicks and stays on continuously. Although it's much quieter and more bearable than before, it's still on continuously...even when unplugged and in battery-saving mode. Well, I'm gonna use it for a few more days & see if it improves, otherwise, I'll just send it back to INSTC for repair. Again, many thanks to GenTech for the service guide!

You probably don't have to send it back for repair, if you call Asus direct they sometimes will just mail you a new fan. Even you have to pay for the fan it might still cost you less than ship the entire unit back to your reseller not to mention you also need to pay for the labor.
