IBM Thinkpad z60t or Dell Inspiron 630m? - Page 2

Go with the IBM. In my place of work, IBM's are loaned out to our customers and they really suffer every bumps and bruise you can imagine, but they are still going. I have owned for like two days the XPS M140 (the twin of the 630M) and it was a POS. It's like hit or miss to get a good screena nd overall build quality. But I still like my 8600 Inspiron and my new 710M.

Another vote for Lenovo.

I wanted to get the Z60t, but my budget was less than $700, so i went with a Dell.

Lenovo has been making Thinkpads for over a year. They have officially changed their name within the last few months. That has nothing to do with their quality. It is not the same as Daimler Chrysler buying out Mercedes

lol, I stopped counting because it's obviously the thinkpad by TKO. This has really helped because when I first started out looking I didn't think IBM (Lenovo) was such a great laptop make. In fact, when I asked the guys at Best Buy and CompUsa about IBM laptops, they would just tell me that they have no idea about how good or bad they are (they don't carry them). I'm glad I asked because you guys didn't really leave me much choice with your overwhelming support for the Thinkpad. So Thinkpad it is...I guess it's now just a matter of ordering and waiting for a month!

Ok quick update...the majority have prevailed. I ordered my z60t today and expect to get within a month or so..hopefully. I order it with just 256MB and got two OCZ 1 GB memory sticks from newegg.com. SO I'm going to be rocking the 2Ghz/2GB thinkpad A big upgrade for me from my shitty laptop! Thank you all for your help and I'll keep you posted how things turned out.

BTW, the total price of the z60t, including the aftermarket RAM came out to be just a shade under 1400!

That is a very good price for the kind of notebook you are getting.

I still think people at lenovo should consider lowering the prices. Dells are much more common just because they are cheaper. And common models enjoy a lot of support, accesories and spares are more common and readily available and such.
