Peace of mind is almost priceless--well, actually $100 to $200 to be exact in this case. I spent $1500 on a 20.1 LCD in '02 and was very excited to get this new technology. Of course it had a stuck pixel in the top (where the address bar goes) and it absolutely drove me nuts. I was bummed to find out that replacements weren't available unless there were 8 or more dead pixels on the screen (at the time that was the standard). I obsessed over it for a while but eventually forgot about it and moved on with my life. But if it were in an obvious portion of the screen that would not be acceptable.
But I've had 2 laptops with perfect screens, a 14" XGA and a 17" WUXGA, and I hear the manufacturing process is getting better--so hopefully the number of people paying $3k+ for a defective screen will drop closer to zero in the future.
