Alienware forces you to use their drivers, you can't install the latest from NVidia on Alienware machines. Is it the same with Hypersonic, or do they allow you to upgrade drivers directly from the manufacturer?

Always use the newest drivers from nvidia.... don't use alienware's... they aren't even theirs they are just outdated nvidia ones usually.
Or if you are overclocking use some of the drivers at http://www.laptopvideo2go.com.
When and if you do go with sager/pctorque there is a thread on here which tells you how to overclock your 7800gtx, you have to use customized drivers.

I hope you got your answers. I just noticed a slew of new posts that were a bit older and I couldn't figure out where I missed them. Guess that is what happens when I get sick.
To answer your question - Hypersonic, Sager, etc, do not require you to use their drivers. In fact, the drivers that are normally posted on the sites are just new releases from the manufacturers, not Hypersonic. I am not sure what Alienware does to ensure you can only use theirs - and it could be tied into some sort of optimization, but Hypersonic does not require you.
One note - drivers are one thing, but bios updates are another. It is safe to assume that the bios update on a Sager 5720 will work on my CX7 since they are the same systems. However, I don't make these updates until Hypersonic has approved them for downloads for major reason - warranty. I don't want them to come back and state that it was my fault that I loaded a bios update provided by Sager but not approved from Hypersonic.
I am not saying this will happen, but there is some logic to the thought process. So before I do the bios updates - I check with support first.
Good luck!

ratmyr said it.
In my quest to get BF2 running on my FX7, I fdisked my driver, reformated and then a clean install of XP.
Using http://www.driveragent.com/ as a guide, I then went and downloaded all new drivers from the various manufacturers (VIA, Realtek, nVidia, ect.) and the box rocks.
Example:
3DMark06 ran when laptop was stock from Hypersonic on first day yielded a score of 3723. With newer drivers and some XP tweaks it increased to 3854. 3DMark01 went from 19815 to 21855.
Like ratmyr, I am hesitant to upgrade my BIOS until a newer release from Hypersonic is posted to their support center.
Note:
http://www.driveragent.com/ is free to scan your PC. They require you to pay for the ability to look at the updated drivers. But if your are smarter than the average 10 yr old, you can easily see that it gives you the Manufacturer and in many cases the models and you can then Google for the different vendors websites and download the drivers as needed. Paying the $30 if a bit much for home use when you have 1 or 2 units. But since my work area have no less than 50 desktops, towers, or laptops on any given day, it was a small price to pay when I do quarterly checks.

cough*k1tty,s hot* cough.........any way glad i got that off my chest , as for drivers you can use just about any drivers for your hypersonic, hell im useing dell drivers as we speak and they work fine. these days i find most of the companys like alienware , hypersonic and sager are usually a few months behind and by the time drivers get to the nvidia sights someones already modded them into a better product anyway, as k1tty said laptopvideo2go.com and guru3d.com usually have the goods.
