One thing I love about being situated is being able to have screens like the 3007 Dell 30inch lcd screen desktops have there plus but so do laptops.

Wow those forums are lawless man I would have banned have those buggers if I were there.

Ive never seen such closed mind-ness! Sure laptops cost more but thats cause I can take it anywhere I want :-D in the car, on the couch, on someone elses couch, where can they go? NOWHERE! true that fear is demanding, but laptops can still do it! I personally think the P-M outdoes the P4 in certain ways, not to mention alot coolerm btw there actually is a few laptops that have 4GBs of RAM (at least the mobo supports it) dont think theyve made 2GB ram sticks yet

THey have no clue, what they are talking about.
He is talking with this :
"AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice Core)
eVGA nVidia 6600 GT 128 MB (PCI-E x16)
1 GB (2x512MB) Corsair PC-3200 DDR RAM
80 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM HDD
Soltek K890(PRO)-939 Mainboard"
I'm not a big gamer, and I have a Duron desktop but damn it, I have 160+60 GB in that thing NOT 80!! - and he says that he is a gamer. And what the hell is Soltek mobo anyway?? - never heard about it.
A friend of mine has a t23 - 800 MHz and it runs UTurnament perfectly.
Yes laptops sometimes have problems with games because the drivers but they are as strong as desktops!!!

Yes they may seem uneducated (and most of them are in this subject)....but at the end of the day notebooks are poor platforms for gaming...the LCD is the first problem (much better then it used to be) but the main issue is upgradability and lack of choice. Case in point? Find me a portable notebook with a chip like an x1600.....the only real option out there is the macbook pro and we all know how useful OS X is for gaming....the T60 looks promising but it will be about $10k. x600/x700 level graphics are the best you can really hope for in a portable platform....quite frankly desktop replacements are the only "performance" notebooks and except for some rare cases (M68xx series) these seem to still be expensive. I unfortunately might have to get a laptop for college and I'll probably be forced to get a huge desktop replacement like the nx9000 series w/x1600 or get a barebones asus with x1600 and custom build that to get gaming performance at any kind of resonable price. In fact I'd be willing to bet that for the price of a gaming DTR laptop I'd be able to build 2 or maybe even 3 higher performing desktops. I'm not saying gaming laptops are a bad idea but one should be aware of what they could be getting. x700 type portables may be able to run games today...but IMO if it won't run games in a year or so there is no point in buying such a laptop for gaming. I've been giving some thought to maybe building a gaming small form factor PC for ~1k and maybe saving for a ultraportable or maybe a mid-range lappy...but this is still expensive. Maybe I'll go PDA or something.

also - Soltek makes good mobos...if you haven't heard of them you probably don't know all that much about the industry (not trying to flame, but Soltek is not some unheardof company - have you heard of Epox, MSI, Asus, etc.?)

Haha, that's rather funny actually.

I wonder what they will say when most of our laptops are more powerful than most of there desktops?

You don't really know what you're talking about; my XPS 2 with a 7800 go, a P-M 2.13, and 2 gigs of ram runs FEAR at 1920x1200 just fine, and cost me a good bit less than my desktop setup. XPS2 was about $2800 all told, and my desktop (ncluding the monitor) was about $4500.

Admittedely, the 1920x1200 on my Dell 24" monitor is much bigger than the 1920x1200 on my XPS 2 17" laptop LCD, but thats to be expected.

Oh, and the XPS is plenty portable, about 8 pounds or so. If you can't be bothered to carry around 8 lbs, you probably need to spend a bit of time in the gym.

I <3 my laptop. Switching to laptops is the best choice I ever made. Bunch of sillie geese in that thread

Hey now after reading that, people are really not paying attention, my lappie can kick a lot of desktop butt , just saying. I play F.E.A.R. on my lappie, it gives me great performance, the CPU side I have keep things down to minimum only world detail at Medium, but on the GPU side I have everything at MAX ofcourse expect soft shadows.

Forgot to add somethings, the 7800 GTX Go is outstanding, it gives better performance that a lot of other products.

Here is 3DMark 05 score: 6550

Did you purchase your workstation from Dell? I'm just trying to figure out you spent $4500 dollars on a gaming rig... What components are in it that it cost you $4500?
Nope, custom desktop.

AMD x2 4800, dual 7800 GTX SLI cards, dual rapto 74 gB in RAID 0, single 250 GB WD, 2 gigs of RAM, case, power supply, and 24" monitor. Thats how you get a $4500 desktop
