UHG, graphics problems.

I'm using a A51m 766/5500

About a week ago my ethernet port stopped working ... but i can use USB for that so I figured I'd wait until teh end of the semester to send it into the shop.

Now, however, my graphics are all messed up. If I uninstall my graphics driver OR my AGP driver things are fine .. but if I fully set that stuff up I get crazy multicolored lines all over my screen.

I have reformatted, so I know it's not a windows problem ...

I'm using the latest AGP drivers and Graphics drivers from Alienware.

Anyone ever have this happen to them? If so how long did it take for them to fix it?

(I am a CS major so going without my computer would = failing ... and at the moment I can still use it without graphics acceleration)

send it in it is most likely a motherboard problem or possibly a nasty hydra in you motherboared bios. i seriously doubt that though. getting one of those nasty buggers is like getting dturck by lightning while being bit by a shark who one th lttery dying in a plane crash from aids.

Ouch... Don't get me started on this problem... I had the exact same thing happen to me, and my computer has been in depot for over two months now. When I talked to the tech on the phone, he told me it was definitely the go 6600, because if I switched it off, it worked fine (on the integrated graphics card. No problem, 12 days max, and plenty of graphics cards in stock. Then, after a few weeks, I called back and they told me it was the mobo... Then, it was the entire screen... Then, it was the cable that connects the screen to the mobo... Now, it is back to the entire mobo, and they are on (what seems like indefinite) backorder.

My best advice: If you can work around it, definitely do. Wait until they have things figured out there before sending it in. Being a programmer myself, I understand you can't go without a computer, so don't take the risk if you don't have to. I had to buy another laptop in the meantime after their "20 day absolute maximum" turnaround came and went.

BadCS, =\

That sucks bro, I'm waiting for my 2 month wait to start because from what it sounds like tech support is full of idiots. Out of the 5 people I've talked to, 3 of them didn't understand what artifacting was, and the other 2 obviously ran me though a check sheet.
