did you order yours with an internal wireless card? if so then there should be a switch at the front of your laptop on the right side (right below your palm on your right hand). make sure that is on. if not then you need to get a wireless card. i use a dlink usb wireless card for mine and it works great.

now i have vonage phones so my setup may be diff than everyone elses..but i use a internal static address instead of having one assigned automatically.

make sure to follow the direction of the router and wireless card.

what kind of router did you get?

thanx for the reply,

yes it has an internal wireless card and the switch is on, the router is linksys wireless-g travel router. i followed the instructions when i was trying to setup the router on the laptop, it said that i had to setup the internet settings manually by typing the isp address provided by my internet provider (how am i gonna find that out). plus there were some options as to what sort of internet i have , ip etc plus some other technical stuff what sort of encryption 64-bit, 128-bit etc.

ok...
what you might want to do (what i usually do) is try to get the laptop online wired. use an ethernet cable to make sure your router is configured right.

what isp do you use?

more than likely you will set up your connection as dynamic (that has been what i sually set it up under). this way the router will asign every comp an ip address.

also i would not worry about encryption till you get everythign running smoothly..then you can add extra security..

thanks a lot man,
one last question....the dsl modem that i got from aol does not have an ethernet port to it...but i have another modem that i got from verizon ( my previous internet provider) which does have an ethernet port... so is it possible that i could use the modem that i got from verizon to work for aol?

so it connects through usb? phone line to modem usb to comp? you might call aol and see (i am sure you will prob have to authorize the modem..that is what i had to do for comcast to let me use the dlink modem). ask to use the verizon modem or to see if they could send you a ethernet enabled modem.

i know bellsouth upgraded my modem everytime something happened to it...take that for what it is worth ;-)

well the next step is now that it is working wired.....unplug the laptop....then enable your wireless and see if your card can see your connection.

there should be at least one connection showing on your wireless network..highlight it then connect.

i just think it is easier to make sure everything runs smoothly with wired before going ot wireless

i would call alienware about your wireless. I was under the assumption it came with an internal wireless card, but was mistaken (story of my life)...
as far as the login, they may be doing maintenance...what error are you getting?
your right... i asked them and they said the laptop has no wireless card in it.... but if im correct does`nt the intel centrino processor have the wireless capability?

yeah you can add an internal card if you want...for me i had a spare usb card laying around....

they arent too exspensive you can get either the usb or card slot one...

pop it in and go...

did you get the alienware site issue resolved also?
yea i got that resolved too thanx... but moore i thought the centrino processor had wireless built-in to it, thats what my friend is telling me.....anywayz.. what wireless card would you advise me to buy..an internal, external... what kinda model...

WELL JUST PERSOAL OPINION...LINKSYS EXTERNAL (JUST CAUSE I LIKE TO KEEP THINGS IN THE SAME FAMILY)

NOW AS FAR AS THE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL..THAT IS YOUR CALL...I BELIEVE EXTERNAL WILL BE CHEAPER.

I AM ACTUALLY LOOKING AT GETTING A PCI CARD SLOT WIFI INSTEAD OF THE USB...USB JUST STICKS OUT AND I AM JUST WAITING ON IT BREAKING OFF...

sorry for all caps....i am at work
thanks.... well between these 2 choices.. which one would you choose
heres one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...Fencoding=UTF8

and the other.

hey there, adeel - while the external wireless is good, if you are going to do any travelling with the notebook, you'll want an internal wireless. Plus it's much more convenient to use even at home...

Sorry about the mixup you had re having the internal wireless card - I can see where it would be confusing.
