Sony Carrying Case - Magnets + Laptop?

Hi everyone, first post here. (posted this topic in the Sony section as well, so please forgive me if that is against the rules).

I've had my Sony Vaio SZ160 for about a week now and just received a carrying case for it. The case is a Sony Vaio VGP-CKSZ1 "smart protection". It utilizes a magnet to close the flap.

The box mentions "this carrying case makes use of magnets. Allowing magnetic objects to come into close proximity may cause malfunction". This case is specifically made for the SZ (13.3"). Am I being too paranoid about the magnet issue? I presume since Sony made the bag for the laptop, the bag's magnet wouldn't affect the laptop stored inside.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

The magnet is not powerful enough to damage the laptop, its hard drive, etc.

I'm sure your OK, but why in the world would they use magnets?

my Asus laptop sleave also has a magnet in it, its been in it for a year now and no problems.

It should be fine. Those magnets aren't that powerfull. My dad has some small (and they are pretty powerfull for some D=8mm) magnets on his desktop
and nothing is happened to it.

I know sombody whose niece messed up the screen of her laptop by putting the magnet in direct contact with the screen and moving it around. She said that it amde for some pretty cool psychadelic patters, but the tracks of the magnet were then permanently "burned" into her screen. This was years ago with a, now, old laptop with a non active TFT screen.

I'm sure if sony put the magnets in the bag they knew what they were doing and that the magnet would have to be more powerful and in direct contact with the screen to damage it. The warning message was probably just for them to avoid a lawsuit in case something does happen so that they can say "Tough sh!t, we warned you". Keep in mind that speakers, like those in the laptops, also have small magnets in them and nobody ever worries about them.

yeah, my acer 732TLV has two speakers mounted right behind the screen and its still trucking alond no prob, except of course it is slower than dog doodie

don't some laptops use magnets to lock the screen lid?

either away, like everyone says, there's probably a 99.9999% chance that nothing will happen.
