It's Official: Dell Beams Up Alienware - Page 2

Here's my prediction: Alienware and Dell will continue on as if this never happened, but Dell will cash the checks. Alienware will remain the same, overpriced company.

1GB more of ram will boost your BF2 performance.

it's probably gonna kill the high end gaming market...

I don't like it. I have been a customer of AW and Dell. Both companies had different ideas and appealled to different customers. I _assume_ Dell will try to redirect their XPS line customers to Alienware now, which means who knows what. I bet it will lessen the chances of future upgradeability for current owners.

It could mean better gaming systems (branded under AW) due to using the strengths of the XPS line and AW? Better quality/support on AW systems? Poorer quality because of problems integrating the two philosophies. Look at what happened to Daimler-Chrysler or AOL-Time Warner. Not a lot of value created for anyone. The one good thing is that Dell is massive compared to Alienware which makes the integration somewhat smoother.

Of course no one really knows....

I'm wondering if Dell will eventually phase out the XPS line, use the "Dell" for competative price computers, and use the "Alienware" for gaming systems.

Man, why do Alienware fanboys hate Dell so much? It's like I told my friend one time, "computers" isn't about who can spend the most money, it's about who can get the best performance for the least amount of money. THAT'S why I like Dell so much. People WITH money seem to despise companies that exist only to help you save money. The people who buy Alienwares are the same people who refuse to shop at Wal-Mart.

I think people are reading into this too much. Its still way to early to tell the effects but I think it will be business as usual at both companies if not making them both better off.

I agree totaly.. Dell bought Alienware for the simple reason of broadening their customer base... Dell is really not known for there gaming computers, so now they will be able to absorb some of AW technical prowess and their machines as well. As for AW they arn't known for thier business/low budget products and this purchase will give them some well diserved exposure.... Just my 2 cents....

I think this is awesome. I love Dell and hate Alienware. Maybe this will help Alienware overcome some of its rather colosal flaws. Perhaps it will bring more exposer to Clevo based PCs which would be great to. Best of luck to Alienware and Dell in this deal. Though I like the alienhead on Alienwares, for looks, I hope the do away with it, because it makes it guaranteed to scratch if you place the notebook upside down, say just in general or when changing hardware.

Dude..alienware has MARKETING prowess in the gaming market...theres not debating it. An XPS put against and Alienware Aurora is no contest if you remove the price tags...the AW will appeal to gamers 100 times over. The XPS just appeals to us gamers because of the bang for the buck. I blame the advancement of technology for the lack of support for high priced machines...think about it, if the FX-60 was the fastest processor and would be for the next 3-4 years, everyone would spend an extra grand to have it.

Again, this deal works for both sides, and we should ALL be happy about it.

What makes you think that AW hasnt used OEM parts so far? Sure they may put in retail graphics cards, cause thats what people will CHECK on, but hard drves? processors? and still the same great performance...I wouldnt sweat this at all. Its FINE.

What is everyone's obsession with the FX-60? It's a dual core processor running at 2.6GHz. It's no different than the X2 4800 besides a 200MHz higher clock. I don't want a desktop processor in my laptop. The P-M is a GREAT allaround processor. AMD couldn't beat it until they released their dual cores.

I just made the point that if a top of the line processor would hold its ground for more than 10 minutes, it would make sense to spend thousands to own it.

Ah. Yes, that does make sense. Too bad it'll never happen, with any component
