The prices won't lower.

dell might increase quality but you won't see a significant change in price. Frankly dell is looking to tap the market of people willing to spend 5k+ on a laptop. Not drop the overall price of the laptops. They basically bought the alienware name to gain instant marketshare, no more no less

haha now we know why dell is looking to double its call center. haha time for america to be a 3rd world. nothing like bending over the americas and saying hope you like the pipe

Sager's awesome. If I could've gotten a comparable Sager for the price I got my Dell for I would've jumped on it.

I do hope that Dell does not gut then cannabalize Alienware like G4 DID TO TECHTV!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Alienware has a legacy of success designing the highest-performance PCs using bleeding -edge technologies and innovative industrial design," said Nelson Gonzalez, CEO of Alienware. "We believe that Alienware will realize significant advantages from Dell's world-class supply chain and operational efficiencies. They will allow us to continue to satisfy our core customers with the most innovative and highest-performing PCs, and ultimately extend the reach and appeal of the Alienware brand."

Seems pretty clear to me...

Yes G4 did butcher Tech TV, I agree with that one. The man show is fun to watch yes, but what in the hell does it have to do with tech / gaming???

Hooray! Now we can jeer at all the Alienware people! Dell win at last.
I can see some benefit both ways. I can understand why the AW crowd is upset as well... someone bulldozed their boutique PC shop and built a WalMart in it's place!

I build my own PC's... it's cheaper and more for the money. My laptop... I'd buy an AW, but like my wallet with some left in it.

It should be a good deal all the way around.

I think it'll be interesting to see what happens. I don't think a whole lot is going to change, but I do think Alienware will benefit from this just as much as Dell will. They may not drop their prices but at least they'll have stuff in stock instead of having to wait 2-4 weeks for your parts to come in before they can build it. I for one think this could be really good for both companies, depending on how it's handled. I'd love to buy an Alienware laptop, but I won't until I have more spendable cash than I do now.

I am hoping Dell will be able to use AMD in their machines through owing Ay-Dubbya... although it's equally possible that AW will dump AMD for Intel ...

one never knows....

What a headline I read yesterday down here in Austin.

Dell hires 20,000 more Indian Workers....

Yeah, I thought it kind of odd too, now I know why... No joke, they are expanding their outsourced workforce at twice the speed they've been expanding their US workforce. This increase of 20,000 Indian employees puts their workforce in India at a greater number that here at their HQ in Austin. Quite sad :sigh:

I mean, you think they could just round up some illegal immigrants here in Texas and put them to work. At least the money would be STAYING in the USA. No no... go blow all our money on cheap labor from other counties. I hate american companies that don't look out for their own country. The almighty buck reigns supreme!

Anyone who's ever dealt with Dell tech support knows the script-reading, hard to understand, overly-apologetic, and incapable-of-thinking-on-their-own staff from India gets old VERY VERY QUICKLY. Thank GOD their warranty is good enough to make up for that pain in the rear.

Alienware will retain its name, brand and product portfolio separate from Dell.

Ø Alienware will maintain its own product development activities, brand/product marketing, manufacturing, sales and technical support operations and brand under the same management.

--------------------------------------

so in otherwords they are going to keep using clevos laptops and rip people off with laptops that cost to much

I think Dell was also looking to get into the gaming market with more offerings that their XPS line. Now they will be able to incooporate their ideas into a platform with an AMD processor. And in a desktop, if you want gaming performance, AMD's are the way to go. They are also making enormous headway in the server market with their Opertons. Maybe on the Alienware side there will be more budget A64 systems that Dell could not offer before.

Thanks lifevszero

I'm still wiping the coffee that I spit all over my monitor when I read lifevszero's(sic) analogy between people who won't buy Dell and shop at Wal-Mart! LOL!!! How insightful!!! What it really boils down to is people who think that they are saving money AND still getting quality and those who are ACTUALLY spending money and therefore getting quality... D(w)ell on it... We only go around once, do your really deserve the cheap crap? LOL!!! Thats what your getting from Dell and Wal-Mart... DEMAND MORE!!! >>> you deserve it, don't you? Well, maybe not...

There's nothing 'leet' about your maturity Scotsman.

This is what I posted over at the AW thread, and was negative repped bombed bad.

Some people are so immature. Can't even sign there name who left the rep.

This doesn't apply to every AW user, but whoever bombed me "I'm a badass with an AW and that means we're more leet than Dell, yet I don't have the balls to sign the negative rep I leave someone for having an opinon."

I go over to the AW forum, posting occasionally, but not very often. I own a XPS Gen 2, and wanted to see about possibly getting a AW desktop, however the maturity of some rabid fan bois...
Dude I am an Alienware guy but even I admitted the XPS 2 owned the Intel AW 7700s (but then the Aurora 7700s pwned the Intel XPS 2 cause AMD > Intel for now until Crusoe hits the streets).

No poiny in trying to reason with the Dell haters, all they do is flame and leave bad rep, even if you make a reasonable point. A lot of them don't care about performance at all, they just want to be in their cool AW club. Let them be stupid and have a bunch of coniptions. No skin off our backs.

DB is one of the cool ones. Rock on DB, and keep using AWs as long as you want!
