Satellite 4030CDS problem with PCMCIA

Hi all
i've a problem with my satellite, the wifi on pcmcia doesn't work at all, but lan by pcmcia works perfectly, i mean, the wifi card, while it works perfectly on other laptops, on mine doesn't receive any network, neither i can connect to any..
this happens on pcmcia 0 and 1,,
i wonder if something bad happened to the lap and how can i fix it..
i tried with linux, with win xp and no difference..
i'm locked out of wifi for now, even if around 8 months ago, it was working perfectly...
should i get a new card?

The card was running with XP 8months ago and now it's not working???
These laptops have a stange way to use PCMCIA cards. I have a network card that under 2000 I just can't connect to any network but it works under XP, and also for internet.
Never tryed a PCMCIA wifi on my laptop only a USB one but that one worked perfectly. Badly I don't even know anyone who would have one to try it.
My advice would be try and find an other card and try that one as well, and if that one will work than probably your first card has something... but you might check for some driver updtaes as well.

actually i reinstalled win xp during the last 2 months so i dunno what could have happened..
i used the same old drivers then also the patched ones for scanning..
but noone works..
i am really sad i bought a wifi access point B for using wlan in my home and found that the card isn't working..
but if a USB wifi works i am gonna go for it!

Is it recognizing the card? Try going into the Bios and going to the PCMCIA settings (it should e on the second page). Make sure it is set to "Set up by OS". Reboot and try again.

hi
the card is correctly recognized, and turns on.

Does your access point have some sort of WEP/WPA protection? Is it broadcasting the they both using the same standards (a, b, or g)?

yes
my access point is only B as well as my card..
actually i have WEP 128 bit on the access point, but i even tried to connect with plain key, and it didn't work..
it not only doesn't connect, doesn't even see the AP at all when searching for networks..
when i try with other AP everything works PERFECTLY.

Did you clone your cards MAC addres?

eh? what do u mean..
Some wifi routers need a cloned MAC (machine adress cod).
Basically your provider fits you with an starting IP based on your MAC, wich is the cards MAC you use first. Every card has it's own MAC.
So: to run properly for every machine hooked to the router you will have to enter a MAC addres manually to the router. The router will comunicate with every other computer but for internet connection he will use only one MAC.
At least that's what we had to do with a friend when we conected 3 computers to hes wifif router, after the internet was alread installed and startes from a desktop.

I'm not sure I explained it very clearly, maybe somebody will .....

Yup... you need to spend some quality time with your router manual and the online configuration page. I'd start the whole thing from scratch -- actually reset your router and do everything from scratch - step-by-step.
