Delay (e1705)

Thread Starter
So I am delayed again. I ordered on March 1st and have been delayed at least until March 31st. I got my system for $1500 dollars, plus tax it was $1599. Should I keep waiting for my system or should I try to build one somewhere else. I want aroudn the same quality for the same price, but I'm not sure if I can find it anywhere else. You think Dell may give me some compensation for my time. It cost me time and money cause of this delay. Your advice would be appreciated. Here is my system info:

So should I keep waiting, I mean is it worth it? Is it better than anything else for that price?

I'm in the same position, but mine is delayed until 27th April. Really tempted to cancel but it'd be difficult to source a similar one for the same price.
I cancelled my e1705 order due to slipping dates and Dell taking a long time to process my order (2 weeks in order processing alone!). Anyway, they did not offer any incentives for me to keep the order which is fine since now the e1505 is here and is very close to what I'm looking for.

A lot of us are in the same position. I ordered mine on the 28/2 and it was delayed until 24/3 and now 30/3 .. but i will wait for now.
none of you will get your 1705 with 7800 go's for at least till may.

sux, but if you want it that bad, wait.

then again. cancel the damn order....use a better coupon, and maybe better upgrade prices by then.

makes no sense to keep an order that long. you will get what you want anyways.

From the way things are going for the E1705's lately... you may want to wait. The Go7800 may become a rare commodity in the "high-end" graphics for the E1705. If the next XPS 17" model doesn't use a similar motherboard you may be stuck without anything higher in graphics cards... and finding someone to give up their Go7800 will be very hard.

Wait it out and hope for the best.
I disagree with Jax on this one. You probably will have to wait until May to get it; and at that point the only reason you would get it is if the 7800go becomes available again on the E1705, which would make it not such a hot commidity once again.

Basically, if there's another computer you would buy if you can't get this one, I would cancel. But if you're going to have to wait til either the new XPS comes out or the 7800 comes back, you might as well wait, and then if it does come back with better coupons, then cancel and reorder.

And your sources to this are what?

I spoke with a Dell Rep yesterday, and I keep in touch with them about my order the entire week. My order is NOT delayed because of the 7800GO, rather because of the T2600 processor. They already have the nVidia card for my order. I ordered on March 16th.

So, obviously what you're saying is wrong.

You sure about that?

My order was placed around the same time as the OP with nearly the same configuration and its delayed as well. If you look, his CPU is a T2400, I doubt that they have shortages on that. I doubt that you will get yours sooner than the OP. Its due to the geForce 7800.

Complain! I cancelled my order, but they offered $50 to keep it.

I just couldn't have $1500 out of my credit card for that long, i'm gonna sell my 9300 on ebay as soon as i can get a 1705 with a 7800.

If you use Dell chat and they don't offer anything, try email or phone service too. I got about $200-250 of incentives and coupons on my last order just complaining about the things dell screwed up.

IME dell doesnt charge the card till you get the machine (or at least not till it ships.... def not when it's ordered)

I keep e-mailing and complaining and such. I really hope they give me something for my time. They offered 35$ and to ship it to my school instead of home. But then they would need to give me another 30$ to cover the tax change. LOL Is the 6800 GO significantly worse than the 7800 go? And is this better than a 3.0ghz P4 machine?

I found a computer at http://geared2play.com/store/product...81sp/z81sp.htm

It isn't much more and I would probably get it sooner. I dunno what to do?! LOL

When you order they should tell you about the delay....or at least have it show in your shippping. IT's false advertising, or something.
Personally I wouldn't touch a laptop with a 600 series P4 in it with a 10 foot pole. You'd be better off with any brand x that had a core duo than with the sys you linked to, IMO.
I will have to wait, because i really want the 7800go with the 1920x1200 and the DVI conector since i will use it in a HP23" .. i currently have a notebook with a 6800go without the dvi conector and it sucks on the 23".

So i'm not really in a rush .. but who is, i agree must cancel the order and get a substitute somewhere.

600 series P4? Why is this so bad? I don't know a lot about individual processors. About all I know is that AMD is usually better for Gaming than Intel. I thought that the 64-bit hyperthreading was good though. Besides, aren't a lot of people having issues with the E1705?

I'm new at this. I know how to diagnose problems, but CPU's are something I never really got into. I just do regular hardware installs and fix program issues. Things like that. I'm a stupid geek. LOL

As much info as possible would be great. I've been reading as much as possible since a week before I ordered, but it still doesn't beat advice from people with knowledge and experience.

Basically, the Pentium 4 is outdated and was never all that great. There have been problems with a few E1705's (mine, actually), but the Core Duo has been great, I had absolutely no problems with mine, and many different companies are selling notebooks with the Core Duo and everybody seems to be happy for the most part. I would still have mine if the 7800 had not been defective. I sent it back today, actually.

For stuff like SuperPI, the Core Duo beats the >$1000 AMD FX-60, BTW.

Hmmm...so my 7800 will probably have problems? I'm confused...are you saying I should wait and keep it or cancel and wait to find something else. I want it to last awhile and I want to be able to play current and future games without much issue.
I'm saying don't buy a Pentium 4 system. They are outdated and not worth it.

As far as what to do about this sytem, it depends on two things. How long you are willing to wait, and the amount of money you are willing to spend. If you don't have a ton of money to spend, and are willing to wait to see if another GPU comes out in the 7800, then you might as well keep the order. If you would like to have the system now, and don't mind spending more; I would cancel it and order something else.

I'm very sure actually, my order's at shipping department now. Ordered on the 16th, that's about a week after they took the 7800GO off the US website (I bought it from New Zealand), and it's already in the shipping department. Unluckily though, weekend now, so I'll probably get it sometime next week.

Definately sure about that then

I'm going to wait it out I think. Unless you may be able to give me some suggestions elsewhere. I don't want to spend over $1,750 on one. Any more help or information is appreciated. So far I've been really happy with these forums and all of you replying and trying to help out> It's like an interactive wikipedia. I appreciate it.
