"When support can cost you everything

Alienware computers are known for being the gamer?s computer if you?re going to go with a pre-built system. It?s well known for their quality components and amazing cases that look fantastic but when it comes to support you have a better chance looking in your own manual to find the answer. Alienware support team doesn?t seem to have a great knowledge on the products that they sell, if you call in they will pull out the same manual that you are holding in your hand and probably read it out to you.

Anyone that knows enough about computers will be surprised by the incompetence of the tech support team. About a couple of months ago I called for support on BIOS issues I was having after updating them to the newer version. They not only couldn?t help me but I had to suggest the answers to fix the problem myself. After waiting on the line to talk to tech support for 40 min I ended up hanging up the phone with no answers to my problem.

Within 2 hours I fixed the issues I was experiencing, the next day I called Alienware support team to update and to assure them that the situation has been resolved. When I finally got through the technician Alex notified me that they have voided my guarantee and cannot answer any questions I have or any other support questions that have nothing to do with the previous issue. What was even funnier to find out was that not only had they voided my warranty on my motherboard but also on every component in my system so if in the next year I get some failure they won?t cover it.

This is a warning to everyone with Alienware system. Don?t call the support team with a question they don?t know about because they will most likely just void your warranty."

Can the staff from alienware explain if this was fair or not for the user that suffered from bad tech support?

Ya...and read THIS part too. Same guy as in shyy's post:

Conclusion:
This system is no doubt the best I’ve ever had a chance to own or even see. Performance is amazing and 3D gaming is just for hardcore gamers that will enjoy the full feel of a game. The components are all quality but like we mentioned before it doesn’t come cheap. Alienware has a great reputation of their systems but the tech support just isnt worth the call.

It comes down to the price of the system if you have the money and it wont put you in debt then you will enjoy every minute with this system. You may even find yourself spending more time at home just to be with it. As long as you never call for tech support they offer a great guarantee where they will send you replacement parts before you even send out the piece.

System Performance: 94% (Killer 3D gaming, Most apps lauch instantly)

The system is very nice and wont disappoint but with the bad support, price and lack of software bundles I give the overall score of 86%

Obviously this guy was a bit upset with tech support but still loves the PC.

I just thought the WHOLE story should be laid out here.

lol, im hoping to see a response from the staff of alienware.
Yea the machine is nice but the tech support is the main concern. You guys forgot to agree or disgree about his warrnty being up because he has no choice but to do it himself since tech support didn;t help at all

The person Updated the BIOS. It is a Fact that Alienware will Void the Warranty if you Flash,Update the Bios. It is like one of the only things that will Void an Alienware Warranty. If the Motherboard issue was handled with Alienware Tech Support the person could have avoided Voiding the Wannanty. Alienware could have easily authorized Flashing the BIOS. But I agree that you might have to put the idea into the head of the tech support. I don't think that many of them would have thought of that on their own. (if only because it is a reason to Void a warranty)

it was rather fun when i called the techguys and told them about my problem for the first time. the guy i spoke to just said "naaah, flash the bios, i´ll send it to your mail". and that was is...
all of a sudden he had told me that i should flash the bios, which, atleast i think so, should not be done by people with little computer experience.
oh well. he was lucky, because i´m not one of those nasty computer-newbies.
but i might just as well have been a complete idiot.
hmm...

I thought there was a guarantee on the AM website that nothing would ever go wrong with a computer bought from them.
That guarantee is completely impossible from any company. Alienware will never turn their backs to a person with a valid computer issue. Any story that may state otherwise is not true. You are covered under warranty if an Alienware Tech makes record that they recommend flashing the bios. And they even sent it to harkon. I'm sure they would have walked you through the process if you asked. The warranty stays intact. The best part.

It is always a good idea to call tech support when you are having some issues with your machine. They will try to find your problem and try to resolve it with you on the phone. If something happens while you are on with them, your system is covered by the warranty and can be sent in for repair.

If by repairing your Alienware computer on your own and damage occurs because of this, the warranty could be voided.

I want to apologize if you did not get the adequate help you wanted. I recommend calling again to speak to another representative who may have a different view on the issue or try our AlienwareChat to chat with one of our Alienware Tech Agents.

OR

You can screw up, call tech support and talk to them as if nothing is wrong...get them to walk you through the process and then go "Oops!" the machine blew up...or something
