Wireless connection in standby

Thread Starter
I know I've posted this before, but it made me think.
On my old NEC laptop, from time to time I would leave it on and simply close the lid (I believe it had some kind of "energy saving" mode it would use in order to conserve battery life (even plugged in the outlet))
This used a PCMCIA NIC card, which worked fine..
Well now I have a Fujitsu N5010 Notebook, and a Wireless lan.
The problem is when my Fujitsu's lid is closed, my internet connection gets disabled! (This happens for both the internal NIC and the wireless lan)

Maybe I'm not thinking logically, but I'd like to hear some comments

Bump, I just had a long download ruined because my new Gateway 505XL went into standby and cut the wireless connection.

Regarding N5010 Closing of the lid! Try control panel, power options, advanced- power buttons section- "when I close the lid..." - change to "do nothing" to keep the laptop from going into standby. Remember the setting you have under-power schemes will still apply, so if you want to keep everything running you have to change standby and hard disk time etc.

I've had my N5010 for one month and am delighted - one issue took two days to repair at the authorized Fujitsu place in Irvine, Calif. (CPU computer repair) - a bent pin in the firewire plug due to the "reasonably priced" 4pin FW cable I bought at Fry's. The shop ordered a new mb for the laptop and called when it was in-3 days- then I walked in at noon Monday and picked up at 4PM on Wednesday- great service!
A small not is that the shop handed me a notice that further work would require a $35 "warranty processing fee"- but wait, not for Fujitsu, but only for TOSHIBA- as Toshiba had cut the money they are paying to their warranty shops. Maybe a sign of things to come for warranty repairs!

Great forum here- thanks from a new member.
