The aspire series is a long running brand for acer, but this current 5670 series has only been released around February this year

so..I will hopefully get faster burns with a firmware update, I shall keep an eye out for it

Ive got an Acer 5514 and an Liteon SLW 831S Drive onit, and when using DVD media burning is terribly slow, takes abot 1hr to burn a full dvd disc this is awful! And when using Nero 7 my laptop goes really really slow, No other issues with speed but only when burning!

Hi there guys.

I bought myself an Acer Aspire 5562 a few weeks ago. I'm having exactly the same problem burn speed of 2x with DVD discs. CD's burn at 24x but the slow speed of the DVD burn is a real pain.I haven't tried DL discs yet. I contacted Acer yesterday about this but I guess the responce will be similar to previous responces you guys have had.

Mines a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-845S. Used some cheapo Playo and other discs that only burned at 2x. Now I am using Nero with TDK 16X DVD+R media, white inkjet printable and it burns at 8X, takes about 10 minutes for a 4.7GB.

Has anyone tried to find a RPC-1 firmware for this drive?
I've been searching for a little while and it seems like it doesn't exist.

Well Acer are certainly in no hurry to give me a reply

Meanwhile I guess I'm going to just have to continue in my quest to find compatible media.

emit I'll see if I can get some TDK 16X DVD+R media thanks for your input

Acer's Reply

Hello, Thank you for contacting Acer.

Regarding your enquiry,

It sounds like it may be advisable to perform a system recovery on your machine to rule out that the problem is a software related one. In order to do so, you will need to put your System CD, or Recovery CD, depending on the system, in your main optical drive (see below). As a general rule, Notebooks will boot from the System CD, and Desktops from the Recovery CD, however, to be certain we suggest you try booting from all your Acer disks. If the machine does not boot from the disk, check that the system BIOS is set to have the machine boot from the CD-ROM drive first.

Notebook:
1)Turn the machine on and immediately press F2 at the Acer splash screen to enter setup.
2) Navigate across to "Boot" on the top menu using the arrow keys and you should see a screen similar to this:
-Hard drive (HDD Serial Code, e.g.: TOSHIBA MK6021GAS)
CD-ROM/DVD Drive
Floppy Devices
Network Boot
3) Using the arrow keys you will need to highlight the CD-ROM drive and press the F6 until the order reads as follows.
CD-ROM/DVD Drive
-Hard drive (HDD Serial Code e.g.: TOSHIBA MK6021GAS)
Floppy Devices
Network Boot
4) Press the F10 key to Exit and choose to save settings.

That doesn't really sound like 8x to me...

OK found a disc that my lappy likes and burns to at 8 x speed.

It's Ridisc 8 x DVD-R comes in a 50 disc pack and I bought from a local shop

Here's a link to the exact discs I have bought

it tells you it burns at 8x??? but how long does it take for you to burn a full dvd at 8x?? I have a few dvds that tells me it burns at 8x, and gives me the options to burn at 8x, but it takes 12-15 mins.. usual 4x takes about 15 mins to burn, soo its not really burning at 8x at all for me..
