And he said it only took him about an hour to complete the process.

So he did NOT make a 7800GTX work inside a 9400, he just made use of the larger heatsink for better cooling to eleviate the heat problems of the 7800Vanilla in the 9400's.

Just tried a mod no go. The upper right peg that the keyboard screws into is in the way of the vid card and the HS itself. The OEM heatsink you can order from Dell may be different but the actual card itself will not fit without some serious modification. Personally it is not worth the hassle as I am getting 5350 in 05 and 3000 in 06 so I am happy. It does indicate to me that a future one vid card will most likely fit with a 130 watt brick and modded bios. Thought I would pass my findings along.

now i play always 440/940
3d mark 05 6700
3d mark 06 3700

the local p0wer source jams with frequencies beyond the 440

6700 in 3DMark05 with only 940 mem clock? WTF... only 18 of 24 pipes are active and you're damn near the same levels as people running 7800GTX's @ 440/1200???

Hmmm...

it is more than my non oc 7800 gtx in a 9300, 6530 in 3dmark05, good job

i know you are using the cooling body of a gtx, nice job.

hey andre, make sure that the 7800gtx cooling heatsink is making contact with your 7800 vanilla ram chips. that might be why u can't over clock them. plus, now i bet u could over volt to near 7800gtx levels and pretty much own them. since u seem to be one of the very few people here with huge balls and a 7800 vanilla, see if u can use rivatuner to unlock the extra pipelines. plus now that u have accomplished that, i am debating ording in that cooling assembly, putting it on my 6800 vanilla, and overclocking/overvolting the hell out of it. where did u find the gtx cooling body on that site cause i can't. it might be because i don't speak german at all but maybe u can help.

I have inquired about a heatsink from IT-Premier and may see about getting several brought into the US.
But it doesn't make sense. Even Nvidia says the Vanilla is running 18 pipes compared to the GTX's 24 pipes. And it's a different core number. 3DMark05 must not push the 7800GTX hard enough to make a good comparison of the 2. Any one have their 7800GTX 3DMark06 score to compare???

62 dollars US for the heatsink, shipping is painful though and I have inquired about a volume discount for 5 of them at once. Let me know if anyone is interested in the US.

Shipping shouldn't be more than 12$ via UPS from Germany to the East Coast US if you setup a billable account with UPS. Just ask the company to box them up, you tell them what shipping option to use, and give them your account number to bill the shipping to. This avoids you from getting gouged by companies. Ask them the price before you mention you have an account, and then tell them to bill your account so they don't give you a higher price.
