9860 DVD Problems

Hey guys,

I haven't been here in a while but I was hoping someone could help me with this. I have had DVD issues with this machine for a very long time now. I had to send it back to Sager about 9 months after I bought it because the "DVD Controller Board" or something along those lines was bad (According to what they told me) but when that happened my machine was totally innoperational. Both hard drives were gone and I lost all my data as well as the fact that the DVD writer/reader was not working.

Now, randomly when I'm watching a DVD it will suddenly freeze and I have to reboot then it happens over and over again. Also, I cannot burn DVDs anymore as it always says that the disc at once process could not be finished.

I'm pretty happy witht he machine other than this but a DVD drive is pretty essential for me. Is this a known Sager problem with these machines? If so, what can I do to fix it permanently? Does anyone know what a DVD controller board is?

Thanks.

Seeing as this issue appears to be the exact same issue that existed during warranty that was apparently fixed, I am going to be pursuing it legally now. Sager tech support is not acceptable.

Issues with my machine since I bought it:

1. Adapter overheated and made odd buzzing sound. Sager charged me for a replacement until i send the defective unit back. The replacement was charged duty and the total cost of the adapter had I bought it new would roughly equate the duty I was asked to pay on it. After much communication I was delivered it without any duty payable.

2. DVD drive freezes on movie, system dies. Reboot, dvd drive is no longer recognized. I remove it, clean it, put it back in. Same thing. Sager asks me to ship it, I ship it and they ship it back saying nothing is wrong with it.

3. Problem amplifies and suddenly my machine no longer recognizes the hard drives (both of them). I take the hard drives out and try to interface them with my desktop computer and they do not work. All my data is lost. Computer is no longer operational.

4. They RMA the whole machine. I send it back and after a reasonably long and unresponsive time they tell me the "DVD Converter Board" is bad. They tell me they fixed it and send it back to me.

5. Machine works slowly and burning is still not operational but machine works. They tell me hard drives had nothing wrong with them. After a few continuous months of degrading the machine begins to freeze and dvds do not play again. Warranty is expired.

I e-mail Sager explaining the above and this is their response:

Quote:
The unit is out of Sager one year warranty, and we don't offer partial refund on the value of the machine, and we don't have trade in program, if sent back to us it will be charge for the out of warranty service..
Note that all the shipping costs to Sager come out of my own pocket. I think I have paid approximately $250 in shipping costs thus far.

You've had an unreasonable amount of problems with this machine, and they should take that into consideration. Yes it may be out of warranty, but any company that values it's customers knows that warranties are only as good as the machines they sell. I believe you've been sold a "lemon" as you've had multiple unresolved problems through no fault of your own. They should take care of you because of that.
