Aviator GX6 upgradeable to 2 GB of Ram?

I've been thinking of upgrading the ram in my GX6 to from 1GB to 2GB.

I see such memory modules for sale everywhere on the internet that says it's compatable with the GX6 which would seem to suggest such an upgrade was supported.

When looking for the manual online to verify memory location and upgrade instructions to see what kind of hassle it would be to do it myself (I've since misplaced my manual) the closest I could find was the manual from Clevo for the base system (before Hypersonic got ahold of it to make whatever changes they did)

Now, the thing is, in said manual I found, it said the system only supported up to 2x512mb modules for 1gb total. So I'm confused by the companies saying they have 1GB memory modules for this system when the manual from clevo says it won't support it.

Is it just a matter of upgrading the Bios for such support? Was it always able to support such but 512mb was the largest module they had to install when the manual was written?

Any help would be appreciated, as I really want to upgrade my memory but, obviously, don't want to waste a lot of cash by buying some only to find out it won't work

Which ATI Video option do you have? If my searches are correct the ATI Mobility 9700 based units support up to 2G, while the ATI Mobility 9000 based units may not. Unclear about the Ati Mobility 9600 based units.

I checked but did not see any GX6 manuals on Hypersonics website. Hopefully Pat can get you a link to one.

Mine is the 9700 based unit.

Yes I know about the lack of manuals on the Hypersonic site, as that was why I ended up using a clevo one as the closest I could find. It would be nice if an online version of the manual were available, especially if said manual included correct and up-to-date info on memory support for that model

Thank you for the reply

RAM for 9000 Version

What is the max type of RAM for the OLD Aviator GX6 with the ATI 9000 graphics? I'd like to upgrade, but old receipt from 2003 says there is currently 512 PC2100 DDR RAM SODIMM. What do you recommend as best upgrade path? Also, is it possible to upgrade the video card to a 9700 version?

These I believe were only up to 1GB. In order to upgrade to the 9700 ATI card, you would need to get a new motherboard and chassis. It is basically like purchasing a new unit.
