HP's QuickPlay v2.0 - Page 8

No I have cox cable. BitTorrent is an amazing thing. Basically it works like p2p works except you get torrents on the internet. You connect to a tracker (which is part of the .torrent file, (some websites tracker like piratebay.org)) and then you connect to the seeds and the seeds share to leachers and it gets shared.

Hey guys, let me chime in on this thread to give some insight of what I have found out so far with QP2. I recieved my DV8000T about 2 weeks ago. I already had my Hitachi 100gb 7200rpm drive sitting here waiting. 1st being disappointed that HP did not ship the secondary HD bracket with my system, I fit the Hitachi into the 2nd drive bay and held it in there with some foam so I could ghost the original drive using True Image 9 onto the new Hitachi drive. Once that was done, I immediately rebooted the computer into QP. Everything worked fine. In True Image, I partitioned the HP recovery partion to 11.9 GB as on the original drive and the QP 2 patition to 1 GB just as on the original drive. I added all the extra space to the C partition. Again, everything worked fine with QP 2 booting properly. Now here is where the stupidity comes in though. Being that I already made my backup DVD's, I told HP Recovery to remove the recovery partition. After doing that, guess what? QP 2 doesn't load properly now. It boots to Windows instead. Looking into it more closely and going through the registry, I notice that under Quickplay, it points to a "config.sys" file to get its settings. So I searched my drive for a config.sys file and found nothing. I tried getting a windows based Linux file browser to search the QP 2 partition, but everything I got wouldn't read the partition. So then I though, maybe its just looking to be a 3rd partition on the drive, so I redid the drie again, making my own 2 partitions for my use and the 1gb partition for QP 2. Reinstalled the OS, and QP 2 still boots to Windows instead of QP! Now why would removing the HP Recovery partition make QP 2 not boot correctly anymore? Could it be reading a config.sys file from that partition to boot into QP 2? Perhaps this a security feature in QP 2 so users of non HP products cannot obtain and use QP 2 on another brand? In the restore options in, when you restore applications, there is an option to restore QP, but I haven't tried just restoring QP after removing the HP Recovery partition.

I spent the better part of a week formatting, reinstalling, getting drunk over this stupid program. Luckily True Image works really well for ghosting and restoring. Some time this week, I will try removing the HP Recovery Partition, and running the restore applications disk to see if I can get QP 2 to work correctly. Right now, I just removed all the HP BS from the system, left the recovery partition, and QP 2 works like a champ on the new Hitachi 100GB 7200RPM drive. Will post more info after I try it what I said above.

I do think all of us need to bombard HP with phone calls and emails until they give us a restore option for this program. Having a notebook filled with their junk is not an option, as we all know it slows it down. Even Dell has a restore disk for MediaDirect 2.0 that is sent to the customer upon asking for it. HP needs to do the same. I also think they should give us all the HD bracket for the secondary up asking. But thats me

SVTSnake: Please! Post all the info you can, I think that it may be possible that QPv2 reads that file from the recovery partition.

When you placed the order, you should have gotten a e-mail from them with the order details, tracking info. Click on that and it should say if it was shipped or not. (Key word is "should".) Should give an ETA.. etc.
I did get the email but in the tracking section, all that it says is that it is scheduled to ship on the 4th and next day shipping. Then it says not shipped. I didn't have time to call them today and I won't have any tomorrow. If it doesn't get here on Monday I will definitely call them.

Got a dv1000t for my cousin and have spent the last two (sleepless) weeks at war with my first HP. After trouble with reformatting (WinXP CD didn't recognize SATA), reinstalling drivers, and salvaging QPv2, I ended up with the following:

WinXP Home without the HP bulk and hassle save for QP, the quicklaunch buttons, pionting dev software, and help files/guides. I will later on install WinXP Pro via windows interface.

No recovery Partition (via Norton Partition Magic 8).

Functioning QPv2 in Windows

Functioning QPv2 in dos EXCEPT: won't recognize C: partition (in fact thinks RECOVERY is still on hard drive) so won't play files off HDD, just off CD/DVDs and ext. drives.

I'm glad my cousin's satisfied with this cause I wouldn't be. HP has got some serious issues with it's tech-saavy audience.

I was looking for a notebook and I stumble upon this site and was glad that I did . With a lot of your help and advice, I have decided to purchase a HP Pavilion dv5000t as my next notebook to replace my aging but still strong Compaq Presario X1000. I am however worried about what I have read on this thread, concerning the HP QuickPlay software.

Can anyone show guidelines on what to delete and what not to delete when I received the notebook? Because I'm going to do a fresh install of Win XP Pro as soon as I get it but I'm afraid of the consequencs. Also a bit off topic, is there any way I can disable the touchpad because my Presario X1000 has an On/Off switch but the HP doesn't. I heard there is a way to disable it by using the keyboard but I do not know how. Can anyone tell me?

Again, thank you for your time. I'm glad I joined .

No guidelines I've seen posted besides the links I've referenced before on doing a fresh install on a dv5000t

Here's a suggestion (I'm serious) Contact the mfg and ask them for an QuickPlay install disc. Seeing how it's a feature that for the most part requires the unit have a certain bios, and dedicated hardware (The "keys you press) they should provide it with the unit, and have an downloadable version as well.

If they're worried about "pirating"... to me having a screen that comes up displaying HP QuickPlay" while the program is being run on another mfg's model is cheap advertising.... Assuming it could be made to work on another brand.

The really sad thing about all this is they DO provide an AOL disc with the unit, but can't /won't provide an install disc for a program that is custom made for the units.

Ok. Here it goes again with HP...Lately I have been defending HP from people who say bad things about them but I am really starting to lose my pacience.

I called them today, THE 8TH, since the disc was suppossed to be here on the 4TH. Interestingly enough, a WHITE WOMAN, answers the phone (a once in a lifetime event) and tells me that the idiot indian guy (I am not racist, just pissed off) ordered the wrong part number, and the parts department didn't know what to do cause it was wrong.

Now she says she has to cancel the order and do it all over again, but unfortunately right now I do not have the credit card I used so I have to call back later today and reorder it. I am really starting to be disappointed in HP's service and quality.

Makes you sort of wonder...

On the indian gentlemen. If I get one of those guys (or gals) I will allot of time say "wrong number" politely and hang up, call back later because there appears to be a large communication gap between those that speak English, and those than think they can speak English.

Nice people and all, just something gets "lost" in the translation /thought process. Differant races, people that speak a differant language process info differantly... It's sort of along the same lines as the way males and females process information differantly:-) You think she/he's understanding you, but you're miles apart!
* * * * * *

Got to ask, did you call during USA business hours? I've found that if you call then that gives you the best chance of talking with someone who speaks the same language.

Hope to hear back from you soon. I've got a machine here which is just sitting here waiting. Took out the HD yesterday... GHOSTED the hd with Ghost 2003, v 8.3 to another hd (ide)... Have a 120gig hd on order thru HP and when it gets here (big-ha-ha) around the first of next MONTH... I plan on ghosting it back to the new hd. If that works I plan on Ghosting the QP partiton seperately, Or deleting it altogether, then by using the HP v 2.0 "install" disc see if it will indeed install to a new/formated drive and intergrate properly into the OS.

BTW: Did the woman verify that the disc you would be shipped would be QuickPlay v2.0?, That there is a listing for QP 2.0?.... If it was me I'd head over to partsurfer, see what number they list and when I call then back have them verify the part number and description. When I order the hd, I had the Maintaince and Service Manual PDF open, had them verify. If I hadn't done that they would have shipped the worng part (or had it delayed as in your case.)

They seem to know the incorrect part number it appears...

I spoke with HP last week in regards to a QP 2 install disk. After about 10 minutes on hold, the gentleman came back and placed the order for the disk. When I kept asking him to make sure that it was a QP 2 disk, he kept saying it "should" be!? WTF? It was suppose to be here today according to the 1st message I got, but then I checked earlier today when it didn't show and it now shows the 4th of June. The disk cost me nothing, and hopefully if it materializes, it will be the correct one.

I do think it is total BS that the end user who just spent $1000+ on a system cannot reinstall their system without having to use HP's bogus reinstallation disk which puts back on all the BS that we are trying to rid ourselves of. I mean if Dell can materialize a install disk for MediaDirect which also btw uses Cyberlink's software, than why can't HP. Surely HP management isn't this stupid? The same goes for the OS CD. We paid for a OS, we should have the OS CD as well for no cost.

I will let everyone know if I get the disk and if its the right one or not. I urge everyone that purchased HP with QP 2 preinstalled to bomb bard them with complaint phone calls, emails, letters until this problem gets solved...

Oh...I guess this might be good for me. What did you say to them to get one. I don't really want to send 60 bux for one but please tell me what you said and when it arrives, if it is qp2. GO SVTSnake!

Lol pretty much same sig bro, and I have a svt lightning...

Quickplay partition problem

Hi all,

I'm a new user in this forum and also in the lappy world and I made a mistake.

I've recently got a dv8000t and I didn't like the media center edition. So I installed xp pro. I didn't know about the quickplay partition, so I deleted the recovery, the quickplay linux partition, the os partition and file partition from the windows xp pro cd, I just backup c:\swsetup obviusly.

A few days later, I found out about the quickplay linux partition, but now it has gone. I was wondering if there's a way to recover that partition, so that I could use the quickplay functionality. I've got partition magic, so I could create the 1024 mb quickplay partition size, but what about the linux OS?
What should I do to make it work again?

Thank you all.

Ivan.

Reading about all the complaints here on the thread, makes me wonder if HP is really doing well . In any case, I have not experience any fault with the HP Service here in Kuala Lumpur.

When I send in my Presario X1000 for repairs, they will tell me it will be ready in 3 working days. If not, they will contact me and say that there is a problem, either concerning with ordering parts or needing more time to diagnose the problem. And when it is ready, they just call me to pick it up and all I have to do is just go and pick it up. The service is very fast and efficient and there is rarely a complaint. They even offer free milo and snacks and let you read the newspaper while waiting for your turn. All in all, I have no complaints against them. Just wanted to tell a positive story about HP for once .

Can anyone still tell me how to lock the touchpad of the Pavilion dv5000t as it is something I really want to know .

As for the QuickPlay software, I will try to do this. I know a technician who works at the HP Service Centre and he has help me a lot concerning my Compaq notebook, providing me advice and software for me to use. I can try and ask him if he has a copy of the HP QuickPlay software available. Do not bring your hopes up though because he is quite busy as he is the senior technician and I'm not exactly free. I let you know what happens.

No-one knows yet how to re-create it. Hopefully SVTSnake will receive the correct cd, and then make it available to the rest of us, upload it somewhere.

In the meantime, Here's a suggestion (I'm serious) Contact the mfg and DEMAND a QuickPlay v2.0 install disc.

Seeing how it's a feature that for the most part requires the unit have a certain bios, and dedicated hardware. (The "keys you press)

Is easily deleted via disk management, is not "hidden", protected...

They should either provide a QuickPlay v2.0 install disc with the unit, ship one free upon request, and/or have an downloadable version.

SVTSnake,

1: When you called them, What did you say to them to get you get them to send you one for free?
2: On it being QP v2.0 , the confirmation e-mail should have a part number.... that could be checked via http://www.partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main

This is the only listing I found for the dv8000t

395252-B2248.00Software application CD - Quickplay version 1.2 restore

(NOTE: the description may, or may not be correct. For a hd I ordered, have on the way it was showing as 120gig, and 80gig for the same part number)

3: Let us know when you get it where you're going to upload the ISO to. If you've read previous posts HP is charging people for something that should have been in the "box" so to speak.
