I am downloading the disk image, but I have a couple hurdles before I can install it on my DV4000 (EC681AV). I have two OS partitions so I have to backup and remove the second partition. In addition, my kids need to watch video on my laptop so I cannot take the risk to remove QP1.3DL right now. I'll try that next week and post my experience here afterward. |
billcsho,
I'd be interested in hearing what you do to get your dual boot back up and running...
I've been trying for a couple of hours a couple of hours to make a fresh install act nice...
Have a couple of custom XP install discs with the programs slipstreamed, nlite'd in.... These custom disc of course don't have the correct SATA drivers it appears. I press F6 upon entering setup, pointed it to the SATA drivers... then I wipe clean (delete) the OS partition, leaving the recovery and QP.. (Mistake #1).... Anyhow.... Setup runs, format the drive, then it asks again for the SAME SATA drivers.... But this time it won't allow me to point it towards the "A" drive (USB Floppy).... So of course upon reboot I get the blue screen of death...
(Went thru pretty much the same thing on my desktop when I installed a 400 SATA drive... the workaround I used on that was to install the OS to an IDE drive, then image over to the SATA. Guess I need to look into nlite, pebuilder, Barts, etc...)
After doing that a few times with different install versions... Decided to try the HP XP PRO install disc... Installed no problem... BUT.... saw that the "recovery" partition was the "active" partition... My OS partition being assigned as logical.. and drive letter "D". Tried to change that via disk management -NO go.... So fired up (bootable cd) Acronis Disk Director Suite v9.0, build 524 to "hide" the recovery partition, change the OS drive from logical to primary, and mark active. It performed all ops, no problem, but upon reboot got the ndlr is missing message...
So off to re-format again...
I'm wondering if leaving in the "recovery" partition is going to cause problems with the QP install.... Probably need to just delete everything... Then use use Acronis True Image, or Apricorn EZ-GIG-II, v8.19, or Ghost to make my "own" recovery partition... The downside to take is the HP restore partition can be accessed via the F11 key... Haven't used True Image or EZ-GIG-II enough to know "how" you access the recover partition generated by those programs...
Two things I noted, when running some low level disc management programs from a bootable cd/dvd... the touchpad goes crazy... tried a USB mouse as well...
(running F.09A bios, supposedly the latest bios for a dv8000t)
One program was Acronis Disk Director Suite v9.0, build 524...
The second thing is the XP PRO install disc I received from HP did not ask for a serial number.... I wonder if each "install" disc they ship has a different embedded serial number or what... Or if the disc is the same and it looks at the CPU, the serial number of the different hardware and generates a number off that... On the custom install disc's I've used they can be setup so you don't have to enter a number as it's embedded..
Got to run.... Post how the re-enabling the dual boot goes...
Currently setup is copying files AGAIN, recovery partition "hidden" so I would assume my "C:\" drive will be "C:\" this time around..
Lots of fun doing disk management without the mouse... and using a program you only used a few times...
