Ryoma, it seems ALL the files to re-install QP 2.1 are now in the C:SwSetup folder. Poster by the name of tph posted instructions here

One more tip, when referring to posts use the post number, you can right click on the number, copy the short cut....

In your previous post you had mentioned page 19... I'm only showing 11 pages total right now as I have the number of posts set to 40 from the default. Little tip that makes it easier for someone to help you...

I love computers! Funny how we (yes, me too) assume things that seem to be true, but really are not.

Here is what I've proven during my testing - There are two (2) separate and distinct implementations of QP2.0. The 480+MB CD install of Quickplay Direct, and the ~39MB install of Quickplay Windows. Other than sharing the name, they have nothing to do with each other as far as your PC is concerned since each has ALL of the code neccessary embedded. (That extra 400MB for QP Direct is a just a copy of the WinXP Embedded OS)

Just to prove it to myself, I just wiped the 1GB partition and reused the space to create another NTFS partition. Then, just to be extra certain, I copied some data files to overwrite the space. So, QP Direct is gone and I fire up QP Windows which is playing just fine as I type.

Long winded way of saying I agree with the essence of what you said, just not all the technicalities.

AmigaDude, I haven't had time nor the reason to go into dissecting how QP works, since after the format I stuck the 480+/- cd in and it recreated the QP partition. Seems to work from a cold boot. and from windows.

I did notice that upon the install that it seemed to be installing allot of files. (WinXP Embedded OS)

So you're saying you formated/overwrote data to the QP partition. After which the windows part still working but the QP Direct was gone. That makes sense.

So just to clarify there are two components of QuickPlay 2.0

(All files for QP 2.1 now being in the C:\Swsetup\QPW, which is the first part of QuickPlay. And C:\SwSetup\HPQPDP thich is Direct Play part of QuickPlay

QP Direct, installed to a (1gig) 1024mb partiton at the end of the drive = QP install disc is needed to create.
Creates the QP partition and the QP installer "installs" a WinXP Embedded OS to the (1) gig partition, plus installs the needed windows files (39mb)

QP = The Windows part. (39mb in the C:\SwSetup\QPW folder) Does not "re-key" QP if uninstalled via the windows add/remove apps function.... Totally seperate standalone app. Need to make QuickPlay work while in windows.

WeAreNotAlone, if you've followed this thread, then you'll know all about HP QuickPlay 2.1. I'm not sure if it can be used for older versions as I could not install QuickPlay 2.0 on my computer. I do however like the Compaq theme as it looks nice on my desktop . For more information, click the above thread.

Ah, yes I remember, you're the guy who couldn't get QP 2.1 installed...

tph had posted instructions on how to do it

http://www.notebookforums.com/post2209258-1.html

To anyone's that interested it appears the QP 2.1 install files are in the C:\SwSetup folder, No QuickPlay install disc is needed to recreate the QuickPlay partition, re-install the Direct part of QuickPlay (unlike ver 2.0)

7. The first thing I instlled was Swsetup\QPW, which is the first part of QuickPlay. After thar, I installed SwSetup\HPQPDP thich is Direct Play part of QuickPlay. Thins one should create a whole partition and set everything up. It does take some time to do all of that, so be patient. After you install those two, I would shut the system down and try to load the QP using e.g. the DVD QuickPlay button on the notebook itself. If it does work (QP runs), then youre on good way.

a wield thing

After reading so many posts, thanks all. I finally get me XP pro work. However, when I change to the QP 2.0 by pushing the sensor DVD/QP. I loaded sucessfully,but give out the following error before the QP menue comes out.

Then a wiled thing happen. I can not close the by pushing the power off button. But I close the lid a while and let it standby. Then I open the lid and I push the power off button, it become to restart. Can you give me some suggestions please? Thank you all.

Also I was wondering whether somebody can send me a zipped file in swsetup/HDD to seaside1982@gmail.com . I can 't get my SATA work. Thank you a million.

You can download the latest version of the SATA drivers directly from HP

are u sure? I was told by HP CSR that dv2000t is recently released and the drivers are not ready to release.

Here's the deal.. when a NEW model is released... items get added bit by bit.... You're just going to have to wait, Contact HP and have them E-MAIL you the drivers, Or go to your local store with an external hd, or a couple of DVD's and ask them to let you borrow a machine for 5 minutes.

First option regardless is to contact HP and raise hell about NOT being provided the needed discs... (I'm serious about that)... and then put them to work hunting them up for you (Even if someone here can help you out)

Why?.... The way I look at it if someone causes me pain, I give them pain back.... They should have provided the needed disc(s)... OR have ALL the files UP for download if they're not going to ship the discs with the unit.

PS: I would think they are using the same SATA controler as the dv5000t /dv8000t. You may be able to ID the chip being used with this:

Unknown Device Identifier 5.02

http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html

Then download the dv5000t/dv8000t Sata drivers, read the readme file to see if the chipsets match up.

Here's a guy with a dv2000t that would probally help... That being said you REALLY need to bother the heck out of HP first, let them know your NOT happy with NOT being provided the driver disc, if it's not up for download yet: http://www.notebookforums.com/post2209258-1.html

thank you WeAreNotAlone. I have bothered HP CSR for several days. I just don't understand why they did not give out the driver CD. One CD cost them nothing but saves their CSR a lot of time. One CSR even askes me to send back the machine and recover it for me rather than sending me the CD. They pay more for the shipping and handling than a CD. Really don't understand.

I noticed they had NO problem putting that AOL disc in the box with the machine..

People really need to bombard them with LETTERS preferably, since e-mails are so EASY to delete, ignore... That being said at least in an e-mail you have a written record of what was said compared to calling.

Just had an idea... go to HP, type in your model number

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...lang=en&os=228

Then click the link that say Check Your Notebooks PC for bios updates, drivers, etc...

Maybe it will pull up something I think in a previous post you say you have the OS up, but need the SATA drivers right? If it pulls up something, check your cache to SAVE the needed files for later.

If that does work, and you can't find the id of the controler in system properties /or with Unknown Device Identifier 5.02, you've looked for it right???? I think your BEST option is to go to a store that has one and copy the SwSetup folder..

Playing VOB files in HP's Quick play

Hi.

Does anyone know how to get Quick play to recognise VOB files on DVD and play the same.

My machine is HP DV5118TX Intel centrino duo 80 GB HDD, 1GB ram

Thanks
post #413 of 910
hi guys I just had a quick question about installing QP2. I have a dv5000t, and I have downloaded the QP2 cd from link given. So to get quickplay back on my comp, do i just create a partition to install xp pro minus 1024mb, and then install quickplay from the cd?
post #414 of 910
ludayoda

Yes, to make it cleanly install, you must have at least 1024MB free (you can have more and it will only use what it needs) AND only have a single partition ( C: ) on the disk. Then, I suggest you install WinXP Pro and next install the QP2 CD. Then you can go ahead and install any drivers, etc.. Oh, and don't forget the QP2 Windows code (39Mb d/l listed somewhere above) that allows you to use QP2 while within WinXP.

srkamath

If you have QP1.x then forget it, it will not play any DVD files from disk, ever.

If you have QP2.x it seems your only hope is to convert the VOB into an xxx.MPG file and play the video, since it will not play the VOB's directly. Sidenote - After using an old copy of "daemontools" to mount a networked ISO file of a DVD as a new drive ( G: ), when I used QP2/Windows it started playing. Too bad there is no network code in QP2/Direct.

misc.. just for the record and any future hacks

In my continuing quest to figure out what the heck they are doing within the QP code, I have made some trivial progress. Here is what I've done thus far, with GHOST backups along the way -
1) Installed WinXP on a 4GB partition, with minimal HP h/w drivers (Lan, Vid)

2) Installed QP1.2.32, by booting from CD included with Notebook.

3) Installed QP2.0.2413 from downloaded CD
- First had to add register key - HKLM/Software/QPFlag QPFlag=0x03

4) Installed QP2.0.2412 (yes, 2412) Windows code, downloaded from above.

5) Installed Quick Launch Buttons (QLB) 5.2 (look under DV2000t d/l's) which can point to QP/Windows.

Since I was looking at Master Boot Records (MBR), it seems that QP1.x does not alter the MBR. This implies that the bios has code already embedded to look for something on the disk indicating a QP1 partition.

QP2.0, on the other hand, modifies the MBR and 'appears' to jump to some mysterious code in the 07A0 segment. Current hypothesis is that it is reusing some bios code ala QP1.x, but given my rusty asm skills who knows?

So, now I have a machine with QP1 and QP2 loaded. Starts up like this:
Power Key -> WinXP
Music Key -> QP1.x
DVD Keay -> QP1.x
Power Key - Music Key -> QP2.0
Power Key - DVD Key -> QP2.0

The direct access to QP2.0 does not work everytime and I'm not sure when or why, yet.

AmigaDude: so the method you mentioned does not work properly, and quickplay does not load outside of windows consistently? Has anyone used this method and gotten quickplay to work fine with a direct boot outside windows?

Update: Quickplay loads fine when i press the dvd button, but for some reason the audio does not work....anyone have a solution? Maybe audio drivers need to be installed before installnig quickplay from cd?
post #416 of 910
ok I solved the problem by installnig the setup file from hpqpdp...for some reason it works even though it was a 2.1 setup file, not 2.0 like the cd. quickplay launches when I click the dvd button, but it must first load windows. it does not actually go into windows or to the welcome screen. it just has the windows startup and then goes to directplay.

I think that it might be possible to not use the quickplay cd at all, and simply install from hpqpdp folder in swsetup. When I installed from the setup file in that folder, I believe it just installed over the quickplay 2.0 partition that was made using the cd. It makes sense that the hpqpdp folder has all the files for setup, because it is 609 mb.
post #417 of 910
I just went to OfficeDepot to check out the current DV4000. It is confirmed that they are preloaded with QP2.0 and the BIOS version is F.12. I also checked the SWSETUP directory and there is not HPQPDP folder but a QPW folder that seems to have a little bit more files than the v2412 from the download link several pages back.
post #418 of 910
thats odd...I had orderered my dv5000t from hp site very recently, and it came with quickplay 2.1. maybe the dv4000 doesnt have the HPQPDP because that folder isnt there for QP version 2.0. Seeing as the folder is over 600 mb, I think that WeAreNotAlone was right in saying that the full setup for QP 2.1 is located in the swsetup folder. I guess I could upload the folder if anyone wants, but not sure where I can upload a 600 mb file.

Yes, I want .. I want..
Just zip the directory to make a single file.

Okay so I am currently uploading it, even though I have cable, it looks like its going to take a couple of hours. I will probably post the link sometimes in the evening/night. Just as a note, I installed this only after using the quickplay 2.0 cd that was posted in this thread. I am not 100% sure that this will work all by itself, but I have a feeling that it will. I am guessing the same method applies (leave at least 1024 mb unpartitioned space) on your hard drive. If anyone gets it to work post how you did it plz.

Update: Ok I am having some issues uploading the file, it just got stuck at the end of completion when I uploaded to up-file.com, and now its not showing on the website. Any alternative places to upload? (Depositfiles.com is only 250 mb limit)
