ohh. what exactly is in the files in post 425 on page 15? are they what I need?
Yes, those files are supposed to be QPv2 installation files. I hope they still work, if they don't, ask someone to upload them again. I can't uploead them 'cause I don't have QPv2.

hi everyone, i just got a pavilion dv2025nr, and i was going to reformat it just like if that were my clone desktop, when i saw the QP and i started to look for it around to have it and then reinstall it, so i found this thread and i was shock, i couldnt belive that the 2 options were reformating and not having QP or have the shitty XP that came with...

after 3 days of reading this post (man its 17 pages!!!) i am relax and tomorrow i will reformat it, but i still need a sumary of wot to do, to dont **** it. I think i saw other thread where it says like 10 steps to do all, but just want to be sure

also i want to congratulate everyone because wthout this i would be nuts, but i still have some questions, if i reformat all i will blow the recovery partition, do i need it?i think i dont but just to be sure, and other thing, i have a SATA disk, but i dont have the drivers and i dont find it in the hp page, those are necesary? my brother just bought a desktop and have a SATA and he didnt press the f6 key when asked in the install and everything went well...
if i need the drivers, could i put them in a usb pen drive? because i dont have the usb diskette and have no money...

i need to know another thing? this is my first laptop and i hope everything go well...
thx in advance
greattings from Venezuela

BuZzEdW - My best suggestion is to look for the DV2000 ReFormat thread with all the specifics. It IS possible, but you must have good preparation and the SATA drivers are a MUST HAVE. I'd guess that the USB drive would work, but check that thread to make sure.

fduenas - Did you try removing the second disk? If so, what happened?
post #487 of 910
BuZzEdW,
USB flash drive won't work from posts I've read.
Sata drivers may or may not be present.... Depending on what version of windows you are trying to install.

(The $10 HP provided OS disc, an option when CTO'ing a machine HAS the drivers... Installs without having to press F6, point it to the drivers.)

CTO=Custom to Order

Drivers are in the C:\SwSetup folder. Should be the SAME drivers as used on the dv2000t.

No need to install 2.0 before 2.1, they are both complete installers. Exactly which error message are you getting? There is one that basically means you must put the Registry entry in, and another means not enough disk space.
post #489 of 910
the one saying alot of stuff. and in the buttomline its stats with -21 something..

hers a picture of the screen (since the printscreen fucnktion is screwed up totally.. proberly because of some driver issues.. I can upload the screenshot if you want yet another reson to post "LOL" )

Edit: Info on the screen shot for later use:
Box in background saying:

And I think another error message related to trying to install QP to a logical partition...
post #491 of 910
well.. the QP partisioned is unallocated so I cant see it in
"my computer" (called "computer" in vista) I can only see it in disk management and theres one gig
so I got this:
C: 67.11Gb (blue)
Unallocated: 8Mb ??WTH?? (balck)
D: 6.4Gb (blue)
Unallocated: 1GB (black)

(the color is the barcolor in the top of the drive in diskmanagement)

1 - (at least in XP) if you look at the bottom of the window there is a legend, that probably shows Navy= Primary Partition, Green = Extended Partition, Royal Blue = Logical Drive

1a - If you have an Extended Partition, it will have a small Green border surrounding the partition graphics.

2 - Exactly how many bytes are in that 1Gb unallocated space? I'm not sure but it may need a little bit more than 1Gb.

D_Zarster,

1: Please when talking about ERROR codes POST the ERROR code, the text of... instead of doing a "screen shot".
OR

2: Post both the image AND the text of the error code.

WHY? ... 6 months from now someone (such as yourself on another issue maybe) may be searching for a "fix".... and the "image" is more than likely NOT going to still be "hosted"...

Hate when when I run across some good info, people don't post the "error" code in this case.... and the image is "gone".

There was another poster a while back who did the same thing... posting a "screenshot" of a error code... but never posted the "code" itself in any of his posts.... and a short time after he "got"... "his" answer to "his" problem the image was DELETED....

It would be sort of like someone posting a "image" of the HP QuickPlay 2.0 install disc showing the part number... but no-one posted the part number.... and then the image was deleted.

Here's the link to D_Zarster's other thread,

HP DV5137ea, purchase date Sep-2006
Trying to install Vista beta 2.0... and re-install QP

According to HP unit shipped with QuickPlay 2.0 Direct and QuickPlay 2.0 for Windows

According to the above "screen shot", which I assume will NOT be hosted 6 months from now he's trying to install QP 2.1

post #495 of 910
Look back/up 2 posts and let us know if you have an Extended Partion, which QP does not like at all.

Quick Play Bug? Anyone has this kind of Problem?

HP Pavilion DV1664EA (DV1000 series), Centrino Duo laptop.

I had some movie files in the shared documents folder. Because I had seen some of those movies I deleted the files and put other new movies in that folder. I run QuickPlay inside Windows XP and everything was OK. Then, just to show my wife my new computer was so nice, I turn-it off and then on via the QuickPlay buttons. Surprise, the files that QuickPlay Direct shows are the ones I had before the deletion process. I was so amazed I tried to view one off the movies I had deleted just a few minutes early, and the second surprise arose, QuickPlay Direct shows me the movie. I turned the computer off and then on again, now via the normal on/off button and the third surprise and most unpleasant came: the computer didn’t start up, at some point in the start up process windows blue screens kept showing. I tried to recover the system but it kept failing, so I had to do a destructive recovery and I lost all my files.

Next I installed the system again and I have tested again the QuickPlay Direct. Again it continues to list deleted files and does not list fresh copied files.

I have already contacted HP support, they told me to upgrade the firmware, I did it, I made a destructive (format) recovery and again the same thing occurs, the file list that QuickPlay Direct shows is different (outdated), and almost everytime I run QuickPlay Direct and I restart the PC the CHKDSK program verifys and corrects errors on my disk.

Help me please,

Paulo Costa (Portugal)

D_Zarster - I'm still digesting all of what this means, but it sounds like Vista WILL NOT play well with QP2.x. My first thought is that you are very lucky that the install failed, since the QP2.x installers overwrite the MBR. They then proceed to install a (hidden) 2nd install of WinXP (WinPE actually) complete with it's own boot.ini.

From MSFT article http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;919529:

When you install an earlier version of the Windows operating system on a Windows Vista-based computer, Setup overwrites everything from the MBR, the boot sector, and the boot files. Therefore, the earlier version the Windows operating system loses forward compatibility with Windows Vista.

If you are willing, and have the QP2 code on disk, you can try turning on debug mode for the Install process. It just means finding / editing the file custom.ini. It should look like this:

[QuickPlay]
ProductName="QuickPlay"
CLScan=Hewlett-Packard

Add this line to it, and debug mode is turned on and you will get progress messages throughout the install. j Might help see exactly what happens before it fails.

[QuickPlay]
ProductName="QuickPlay"
CLScan=Hewlett-Packard

DeBug_Mode=1

And (at least in my experience) it has to go through the initial boot phase of of the machine --into the Windows Pre Environment..... The "Time Savings" between having to boot the machine all the way into Windows to play a CD, versus using the "Quickplay" option... are basically trivial....

AND.... (again in my opinion) QP player kinda sucks....

I'm running QP v2.1xxxxx
