HP's QuickPlay v2.0 - Page 5

Yes, I think it is all BS. I was very lucky and received a WinXP CD and a Drivers & Apps DVD with my dv4000. I really hate the damn recovery partitions.

And NO, I haven't contacted Cyberlink since I don't have QPv2. I think I should have it in order to receive some info from them. But maybe someone with QPv2 can help us asking them. Would anyone of you, QPv2 owners, help us and ask Cyberlink?

Thanks!

Edit: I also received a QuickPlay v1 installation CD. Great!

Eriko,
The BIOS update for QP2.0 support is still available on HP.com at here. The new DV4000 with x700 is called DV4200 series outside the US. HP has removed a bunch of BIOS update for many models from their driver download pages last month. So this is not related to QP2.0 but just another stupid thing on their site.

I'm not sure is that's the same Bios I installed in my dv4000. But my laptop is supossed to be the model number EC681AV, and the Bios update was under that model number, now it isn't anymore.

Anyway, right now my main concern is to get the QPv2 installation files.

Yes, it is the F.12A is the latest BIOS for EC681AV. I have downloaded it when it was on DV4000 CTO's page and it is the same file now on the DV4200 CTO page. By the way, mine us also EC681AV.

I just read the thread about HP recalling the batteries again. And I was thinking, since HP is not offering the x700 anymore and reduced the processor power, I'm just hopping that HP will recall the dv4000 laptops and give us in exchange a dv5000. I know I'm dreaming, but that's how I started with my dv4000, dreaming! This way I would receive QPv2.

Actually, what's the big deal about not having recovery discs? I paid the $10 for the WinXp CD, but then I created the Recovery Discs also that HP suggests to do. So if something ever happens or I upgrade the hard drive, I can always restore it to factory condition (which better include QP2).

The big deal is it really doesn't cost anything for the mfg to provide them... a few pennies.

It's also nice to have a silk screened, prof printed label.... Makes it easier to find the things if you have allot of discs.

On the "if something" ever happens... If your running windows, about once per year is the norm. (YMMV)

On the QuickPlay being restored using the restore discs.... That remains to be confirmed....

We ALL need to contact HP and bug them on these issues...

For example, I would like to know IF the restore feature indeed "works" when going to a larger drive...

Does it "restore" the QuickPlay partition if it is deleted?

Partitions are added? I was running Ghost last nite and it's on the 3rd primary partition. I would assume if the order is changed, a partition is added , it's not going to work.

Will QuickPlay still work if I SPLIT, and resize the OS partition... splitting it so I can add a partition JUST for data.... Or maybe as I've done in the past having a small partition for the OS, a second one that all the APPS go on, and a third that the DATA goes on.

I'd also like to know if there is ANY way to enable the RAID feature of the SATA controller. I was reading the readme of the driver file for it and it mentions raid for desktops, but it being disabled for mobiles.... I would assume this is because most moblies don't have a second hard drive??????

Right now I'm getting all the stuff needed to ghost the drive.... http://radified.com/Articles/laptop.htm

Has anyone ghosted the drive and been able to RESTORE it on the dv8000t, dv5000t since they use SATA drives?

For QP1.x, you have to re-install QP after adding a partition due to a change in Partition number. Not sure if this is the case in QP2.0 as it is not, at least not solely, Linux apps.

Well that's good news... at least the QP v1.0 installer program is smart enough to hunt down the partition again...

So How about after you DELETE the partition containing QP v1, can you restore it via the install discs provided, the restore partition.... OR a backup of the partition itself?

I'm talking about a total wipe of the HD, not just removing the app via the Windows add/remove function...

I'm talking about say some deleting the partition by mistake. (or on purpose) and wanting it back.

Forget all that .... anyone used Ghost, etc to backup / delete the partitions and be able to restore them.... on the dv8000(t), the dv5000(t) that use SATA drives?

QPv1 does allow us to install QP again even if you deleted the partition.

I tried once to ghost the QPv1 partition to send it to Turkey, but I couldn't do it. There is something called "Crosslinked Partitions", and because of that, I wasn't able to make a ghost image of the QPv1 partition.

I guess QPv2 is protected somehow too.

I'm really hating myself right now. I just got my dv5000t and instead of reformatting, (I didn't want to deal with drivers and shit), I just uninstalled everything relating to HP NOT including quickplay (basically the games and the trialware (ie money, office, quicken, sonic) but not the stuff I felt was important).

I also deleted the recovery partition and then didn't realize what the unpartitioned area was for so just made the HD the full size with Partition Magic. I then proceeded to delete unnecessary folders in C drive including swsetup and temp shit.

I can run quickplay 2.0 in windows, (I can hit button and use remote) but I cannot boot into quickplay. I used data recovery software to get some folders back but it did not help. I also resized the partition to leave exactly 1024mb of space for quickplay.

I called HP and told them and all they said was that I could buy a CD for 45.00 but I know that it is quickplay v1 b/c at first she said to look for a cd, then resize the partition to 204mb which is for v1. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I feel like a total dumbass and I REALLY do not want to send it back.

You did what??? No!!!

I feel sorry for you. Anyway, if you want I could send you a copy of my QPv1 CD, just give me your e-mail address and I'll send it to you this weekend via www.yousendit.com If anyone else wants a copy of QPv1, just give me your e-mail address.

And if anyone of you have a copy of QPv2...Please, send me a copy!

Cool man thanks. Emails wolfenden@cox.net. Is there any way to upgrade or anything?

I feel like a total dumbshit. Also ANYONE WITH QUICKPLAY 2.0 WORKING! Please tell me exactly the way your computer shows the partition setup. This program will tell you what it is (trial will at least) what the HD looks like. I just need to know what the HD looks like.

Mine shows 2 partitions one is all the windows and the other is 1027.6 mb of UNPARTITIONED space. Someone who has done nothing should have 3, one w/ windows, one recovery, and one for quickplay 2.0. Mainly I want to know what it says for the quickplay (ie unpartitioned or whatever). This would be greatly appreciated.

Also, anyone with a recovery disk who got it with windows xp pro, I would gladly pay them for a copy of their recovery disk (one made with the partition not the $10 one, I have that one). Thanks.

That 1027.6MB partition shows as unpartitioned, but it is actually full of Linux files. So, it won't work if you "restore" the unpartitioned space as it was, you need the files it had.

Damn, that sucks. Is there any way to get those files from someone?

That's why I started this thread, but it seems that no one has found a workaround...yet. Hope they will soon!
Ya so do I. I really don't want to send it back and I hate not having qp. I guess I'll wait a couple of weeks.
Did you order it from HP.com and is within the 21-day return period? The only way to restore the QP2.0 right now is to send your laptop back and get a new one.

Quebec Papa = Charlie Foxtrot

Quickplay 2.0 is a mess. It's basically a part of windows, i just got a new DV5178US with 2.0, and all I saw as far as partitions is one big one, and one little one (im at work so i dont have the exact sizes handy). as far as i can tell, all the little one (12.1 GB isn't so little!) is, is the recovery partition. I'm under the impression that since it took 4 DVD's to burn the recovery disks (that works out to about 12-15 GB of data) that is all that is in there. I don't think 2.0 works the same way as 1 did. Version 1 was linux based and essentially acted as a completely seperate operating system. Version 2 is integrated so tightly into windows (hell, it even shows "resuming windows" and the windows boot screen before kicking in) that it may not actually be possible to seperate it. I doubt that even the recovery disks that you can "purchase" from HP will do it, since they're just barebones OS and driver disks. The only thing I can think of, and I have yet to try this, is that once the recovery disks are created, using the "software and driver recovery" stuff on them to install QP. I have yet to investigate how tightly entwined QP and windoze are, or even if QP is listed in add/remove programs. (Anyone who has 2.0 and has a minute, please check this out... if it's in add/remove there's a good possibility it's seperable.) I'll mess around with it more tonight.

Anyone know if the recovery disks keep the partition scheme the way it is? or do they wipe it out?

And while I'm rambling...

If QP2 is listed in the Add/remove programs, then it's probably recoverable off of the partition, which means its probably recoverable off of the disks... anyone ever try installing the software from a recovery DVD from one HP notebook onto a similar one? like, my former HP that i returned was a DV5040US with QP1.... what are the chances of being able to use some of the software recovery ability of my new laptop's DVD to install QP2 (if it's on there)... that sort of thing.
