E1505 6000D side by side

My roommate just got her E1505 today. I happened to have a 6000D in my hand. so I will post some pictures here.

The changes are trivial. The E1505 seems to be a little thinner.

The E1505 had XGA + TrueLife and the 6000D has SXGA.

The front. (L: E1505)

The back: (L: 6000D)

Side (L: E1505)

XGA VS. SXGA

The text in SXGA seems too tiny for me, while the XGA seems too huge....

is it really thinner? by how much?

Yeah, thinner by how much???
It is .41 of an inch smaller

So a little less than half an inch

The back appears the most changed. The power plug on the E1505 is right-rear and I don't see any USB ports on the back of the 6000.

For my personal needs, the E1505 is a better fit.

Smaller? In what dimension? The preceeding question asked about thickness. The E1505 is 1.44" thick and the 6000 is 1.52" thick, my math says that's 0.08" thinner.

BTW: One only has to go to Dell.com to get this data.

is there the "annoying gap" between screen button things, and top of base of laptop with the 6400?

basically when i close my 6000, there is about a 1/16 in gap and the lcd wobbles, annoyingly.

Is the battery for the 6400 9-cell or 6-cell?

SXGA is too large! I would never get anything less than WUXGA. If you think the fonts are too small, there are several ways to make them larger... In windows, and within the app itself. High Resolution, plus larger fonts = the easiest to read, clearest looking text! Do not get a lower resolution screen just to make fonts look bigger.

I could not disagree more. I have tried using 15" laptops at 1900x1440 or whatever and it was a nightmare. You really enjoy going through every app and changing settings just to be able to read it? I love the resolution on my WXGA's.

Besides lcd's run best at native resolution and trying to game at such a res with low-end cards wouldn't work. I was so happy when I found out the E1505 had a truelife wxga option. I totally love it.

The batteries are not interchangeable unfortunately(E1505 has a step down right at the top of the battery, so the I6000 battery won't fit). The AC adapters are slightly different but they both work. The only change is the E1505 adapter is a 2 prong instead of a 3 prong plug, but the actual power brick is the same wattage and everything.

The E1505 is noticably thinner when you pick one up then the other. It may only be about .1" thinner, but it feels like more when you pick it up. The screen, when closed, also doesn't have that annoying gap that Chevyrulz was talking about. My I6000D had more gap on the right side than the left and had way too much room to be pushed down. The E1505 sits almost completely tight against the base, maybe a mm of a gap between the bumper and the base, and it's completely even. The E1505 is also lighter. Not sure by how much, but again, it's noticable. I have noticed that it gets a little warmer than my I6000D did though, but it's still not bad enough to be uncomfortable. Hopefully that will get better with some AS5.

Overall most of the changes to the E1505 are small, but they all add up to a nice difference. The E1505 also has better fit and finish than my I6000D did, which is nice.

I'm going to write a full review on it in a week or two once I've had a chance to really check out every aspect of the E1505. I will compare it to the I6000D so everyone can see how much of a change there really is.
