Want to be blown away? Classic Doom for Doom 3!

This is not all that new really, but I have not seen this mentioned on this forum: If you were maybe slightly disappointed by Doom 3, and maybe even uninstalled the game, then dig out those CDs, reinstall, patch to 1.3, and head on over to the Classic Doom for Doom 3 site!

These guys spent about a year re-creating the shareware levels ("Knee-deep in the dead") of the 1993 classic Doom I, monsters, music and all, but using Doom 3-class graphics. The mod even includes a semi-professional intro movie. I promise, if you fondly remember your Doom I days, you will not be disappointed. Some people have commented they would be willing to buy Doom 3 just to play this mod...

The mod is at version 1.0 now, which is a near-perfect beta, that includes all of the shareware levels. There's currently no radiation suit, and there seems to be a minor glitch in E1M7, but otherwise this is feature-complete and fully playable. A final version 1.1 is in the works, and should be out real soon now.

P.S.: On a different note, I wonder, why does everybody love to hate me?

And what might this have to do with Dell? Laptops? 9300/XPS 2/XPS M170?

That might explain part of your neg rep. This thread does not belong in this topic.

Way OT, but still pretty good thread.

Fair enough. Although, you really need a Dell computer to enjoy a game like that

I doubt it, judging from what happened to it after posting this.

People here post "off topic" threads all the time, and I think most people appreciate them as long as they're of general interest to us. Game info, cool utilities, etc. If the post is still in the forum, then the mods didn't think it was criminaly off topic.

I've seen this mod, but had forgotten about it. Thanks for the riminder. Rep to you!

Downloading now.

Yup, this is a fine place for posts like this. I consider it a great way to show off the power of my m170 and of general gaming interest, which applies to the XPS line of computers.

I am definately going to check this out. Doom was the game that changed everything if you ask me. Right about then I got my first sound card and Doom really was awesome. Lugging the comp over to a buddies house to play DM was the a blast too. I don't think any game (possibly HL) has garnished so many awards.

The Doom series has never been about the story, but D3 left a bad taste in my mouth after getting jumped from behind by 2 imps every friggin room. (It didn't help trying to play it on a mobility 9700 either.) Reliving the old game with uber graphics could be a blast. I hope they do everything when they have time.

Anyway, I am gonna head over and check it out. Thanks!

Yeah, that was my thinking, too.

They have made it pretty clear that they won't, unfortunately. One of the team seems to have moved on already, and there may also be copyright issues with doing the non-shareware levels. Now, if ID would see the light and continue what these guys started, that would be a different matter ...

Thanks for the rep for both of you. I didn't understand the system when I wrote my first post in this thread, but I think I have a clearer picture now. Some powerful entity must have given me a serious boost for this post, too. I wonder, is there a way to tell how much rep I was hit with on each of the items in my "hit list"? And how much my own reps are worth? Are positive and negative the same number of points?

His feedback looks fine to me.

Check your User CP and you will see the last 20 rep hits you have seen. Its located at the bottom of the CP page and is titled: Latest Reputation Received. If someone gives you pos rep they will typically sign thier name so you know who it came from. If its a neg rep most people dont bother. You cant see how much each person gave you but it will show you your total rep points. Note that you can figure out how much rep you give by dividing your total rep points by 200. So if you have 100,000 rep points divide that by 200 and you give 500 points for each rep you give. You can give 10 reps per 24 hour cycle which restarts 24 hours after you give your 10th rep. Most people try to rep out all 10 at once because of this.

Btw.. thanks for the info. It is rather Off Topic and there is a place for Off Topic posts however since there are a larger number of people here in the Dell forums who game I see this as simply a helpful post to those gamers.

Yeah, it's fine now, but I started out negative, with the title "Pirx is the one everybody loves to hate", or something to that effect.

Hah, that was enlightening; thanks!

no problem

Point made. I guess when I look at topics.. I look for information that pertains to that topic. I thought maybe the Dell General Forum would have been more appropriate.

I do see the point others have made.

BTW.. Thanks for all the NEG REP for my questioning this. And as stated above, of course all the NEG REP has no one claiming as to WHY they felt that way.

Side note... I didn't give out any REP for this thread and to OP. I just questioned why it was here.

You all need to get outside of the Dell forum every once and a while.

I'm sure there's more, but I just did a quick search and posted the most relevant results.

I personally don't care too much for misplaced threads since I browse many different forums, but I'm sure a lot of other people would appreciate it if threads were posted in their correct forum. Since this thread has to do with gaming, it technically should be in the "strafeRight -> General Gaming Discussion" section.

this sounds awesome, me and my dad used to play doom 1 and doom 3 at his work on their thinlan network back in the day using IPX/SPX, back then I was only about 9 or 10 but I loved doom, I have to download this.

I never heard about this before so I am glad you posted it here for me to see.
