Irelevent? HMMM... maybe... and your point is?

... and yes that is my website
... and no there isn't much there because I am maintaining 3 websites for the Boy Scout groups that I belong to and don't have time to work on mine. One of these days!!! I do use it for file sharing (not copy protected stuff but files bigger than Gmail can handle). I have 10GB of online storage so if I need to share files with people I just upload and send them the link. So it's doing what I need it to do right now.

Oh... I get it... I meant below the lcd not under the lcd. Of course if it were under the lcd you wouldn't be able to see leds. The speakers on the 710m are below the lcd in the lid instead of the front edge like on the 6000.

Don't take it in a bad way. I was going to compliment you on that site. Looks REALLY nice. I like the GUI

Wish I had more time to work on it. I use Joomla Open Source webengine. Web-based. Lots of templates for free... just install. I was using NukePHP on a couple of sites and started switching over to Moomba then Moomba turned into Joomla. Do a google on it to find it. My host is Midphase and they have self install scripts for just about everything. Works real nice.

My scout ones are
www.mustangdistrict.org
www.colonneh137.org (in NukePHP) and moving it to www.colonneh.org (in Joomla)

I've never actualy seen a 710m in real life but i have seen a few 12.1" laptops. It would be a whole lot harder to fit leds in that then the i6000. You might beable to fit 3mm led's in the display. I'm not sure about 5mm led's though. I should get my led's tomorrow. I can't wait to install them!!

My question is are those LEDs really that bright, or are the photos overexposed/enhanced? Does it look in daylight, or just in the dark?
Can these be turned off easily?

I want to do this on my 9300 now.

The LED's are VERY BRIGHT!!! They look brighter in real life both during the day and night. The turing off part is a bit harder. I still don't have a way of turing them off. I was thinking of cutting a slot on the back between the heatsink and power port and place a switch there.

I don't see any difference in battery life. I still get my usual 3:30 with lcd screen brightness maxed power play on and @ 800mhz .700V

Anyone attempting this mod, just remeber- LEDs always need a resistor. Other wise it's like connecting a wire directly across the supply pins, which is bad and will probably rape your laptop. Dont try to not use one to get brighter lights.

so...does disabling the port (if even possible) work?

I bought mine off ebay. I think I got lucky. Mine were packaged in ESD wrapping with a lable on top showing the specs.

There are 4 things you have to keep in mind when ordering the led's

1. Size - Go for either 5mm or 3mm. The 10mm ones are too big.

2. Voltage - They should be between 3-4V. Don't go over 5. 5.123 is the max the usb port can put out.

3. Current - (This really messed with my head) - The usb port can only put out 500mA (miliamps) of current. You go over that, and none of the led's will turn on. In general, the less mA the led's take, the more efficient the led's are and the brighter the led's should be.

Ex. My first led's had an mA rating of 100. My new ones that were crazy bright had an mA of 35.

4. Brightness or MCD (millicandela) - This is the unit we use to measure brightness . Go for as bright as you can. Don't go for the 140,000mcd ones i've seen on ebay...They will blind you...mine are 6000mcd blue ones. I am very happy with them. You can go higher...Probably up to 20,000mcd. Just don't go overboard with it. They may distract you from pwning nubs in CSS...lol

Sigh...Disabling the port does not change the fact that there is always power coming out of the port.

why not just do it to the power of the leds that are around the music control that way you can control it a little better or you could do it to the power board that the leds for wifi and BT and stuff go to that way they turn off

or even the hdd led power.
