Oblivion issues on XPS Gen 2

Everything worked fine until I entered Oblivion...after some time there the screen goes black. The funny thing is I can still move in the game and all the sounds are there, and interface as well.
I tried different drivers, but it still happens! And everything worked fine until I entered that damned place.

Anyone has the same problem?

No problem yet for me. I made my character, made my way through the dungeon below the prison, and now I'm in the Imperial City exploring.

Have you tried a reinstall yet? There is also a nVidia driver update for the game. Might want to try that as well. I also hear there is a ini.file tweak guide floating about that has helped some folks.

It was fine for me as well until I actually went INTO the Oblivion. Do you know what I mean?
Yeah, I have the latest drivers and it runs smoothly. The thing is that in Oblivion level everything goes black.

Oh, I thought you meant into the game from the creation part or something. I havent gotten too far into the game yet so I'm pretty new to the whole thing.

Do you have HDR on?? I get a black screen all the time with HDR enabled, had to go back to AA. Hopefully a patch will help.

(I just got past the oblivion level yesterday actually)

Thanks guys. It must be HDR problem, i'm gonna switch it off now. I'm just curious why it started to happen after some time...it was all right at the beginning.

HDR looks great but it's such a huge performance hit. I just disable bloom/hdr and use 4xAA. Runs at a playable level while still looking pretty sweet.

try the new driver for OB too 84.25. that may help.

I got the black screen while creating my character last night...I hadn't even started the game yet. I noticed my temps were above 90 just from the character creation. I restarted the game a bit later and was able to play for about 4 hours without any problems. Graphics settings all on default with rez at 1920 x 1200...is everyone else playing on native resolution? Framerates are seem more than adequate for me, even in the outdoor environments, but haven't come across a lot of characters on the screen at once outside. HDR is on and all details on default. Temps hover around 100 during gameplay, but no crashing yet (knock on wood). I'm going to experiment with the graphics settings to get the ideal balance between eye candy and fps, but damn...this game is beautiful!

HDR is on in my game. I had heard about the HDR problem before installing but decided to try playing the game with it on because I wanted to see how the game plays in unchanged form. No problems yet for me.

Near as I can tell many of these Oblivion problems are random. Taking two identical machines with identical configuration and components one may experience problem/s and the other may not experience a single problem. I find that odd myself but I have no explanation. I think the problems would lessen once Bethesda gets a patch or two out to address some of the problems.
