HD in Inspiron 9100 is dead. Need help please ordering a new HD

I get the error "unmountable boot drive" in my Inspiron 9100. It is just about a year old and I tried to repair it and reformat it and it said it cannot be repaired. It also stated that the drive cannot be formatted.

I have the 60gb 7200 RPM drive.

A: Anyone have a link I can buy a replacement HD?

B: Is it hard to install? I am out of warranty and would rather not have a DELL guy come and repair the thing for a butt load of money.

Thanks!

if your asking about physically installing it, it's easy as pie.. just don't forget to take out the small adapter on your old hd and connecting that on your new one.. also don't forget that your hd should carry a 3 year replacement warranty (assuming it's a 7k60 ) so send it in asap to get a replacement

i sent mine in after it died and got a replacement after 2 weeks... actually i bought another 7k60 prior because i couldn't wait that long and now i have that extra 7k60

here's a link on how to replace your hd

This is probably not the best price out there for this drive, but I upgraded to this recently:

100 Gigs, same spindle speed as the 60 Gig. Great upgrade purchase if you have to pay out of pocket.

ugg, called Hitachi and they said it is a DELL HD so I must go through DELL for replacement, and of course my warranty expired with them.

Yeah, looks like you're going to have to fork over some cashola. Either replace the 60 Gig with a 60 Gig, or upgrade to 100 Gig Hitachi or Seagate so you can keep your fast read/write speeds. If you upgrade to 80, you'll end up with a slower right speed, like 5400rpm. That's a performance downgrade

sorry to hear about that... did you tell them you got the hd stock with dell?... you might want to try again but don't tell them you had it originally configured with your dell laptop... just tell them it died on you and give them the s/n... hopefully they'll give you an rma.. best of luck

Hmm I see a 7200 RPM drive here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822146047

oh nice. Didn't realize it came in 80 gig, 7200rpm. Great upgrade then. I get my Seagate and hitachi configurations screwed up. although 20 bucks more gets you the 100 gig, but who knows when the next great sale on 100 gigs will be. I think I bought mine around $130/140. $145's not bad for the eighty Gig. 'spose you can't wait around too long for a good deal.
