LCD screen "burn" on my TM8104

My LCD screen appears to have "screen burn", that is, ghost images from something that was displayed on the screen for a long time. I inadvertantly left the settings so that the screen didn't blank nor screen-saver kick in, and went to sleep; the next day, I saw these ghost images (in my case, of the Windows log-in screen).

I tried the suggestion on Apple's website (display all-white screen, leave it for as long as original image was allowed to sit); this had no effect.

I tried leaving the machine off for a day, and this did improve the situation, but did not solve it completely.

Anyone else seen this? Any further suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Jonathan

P.S. I never had this problem with my old laptop (a Compaq Presario)...

I had this. I sent it in for repair about a week ago. I've had this problem since about last year but I wasn't able to send it in to repair because i was travelling. My warrenty ends in like 4 days.

The term is not ghosting actually, I believe it is called Image persistance. Contact Acer about it. My laptop Image persistance at the bottom of the screen, very, very annoying.

Perhaps this is one of the problems with the QDI screen that led the Acer techs to mention they have had a bunch of returns. Can you check what model the LCD is. Use this:

I had very similar problem with my 8104. This ghosting only happened when my screen quickly changed from white to black. Also, I only had ghosting at the bottom of the screen.

I only noticed this problem when booting or when playing a dvd and my controls disappeared. First I was freaking out but now I just don't give a f***!

It never was a problem in gaming or anything.

By the way, here is some info about my monitor according to Everest:

Monitor Name: Plug and Play monitor [NoDB]
Monitor ID: SEC0000
Manufacturer: LTN154P1-L02
Manufacture Date: 2003
Serial Number: None
Max. Visible Display Size: 33cm x 21cm (15.4")
Picture Aspect Ratio: 5:3
Gamma: 2.20
DPMS Mode Support: None

One of the reasons I didn't return it yet is that I don't want to get a "new" one with a dead pixel for example!

It was EXTREMELY annoying for me especially for the buisness I am in. Oh well each to their own. I'll be recieving my laptop back this week so hopefully it'll be fixed.

Thanks everyone for all of the info. After leaving the laptop off for a day and a half, the "burn" (or 'image persistence') faded so that most of it is gone completely, and the part that is left is only faintly visible against a neutral gray background, so I think I'll watch if for a while and hope the rest fades away completely, too. (I also worry about sending it back for repair and ending up with a screen containing a dead pixel.) But, I have adjusted my power settings to blank the screen after a few minutes, in both battery and plugged-in profiles, to prevent a re-occurence.

Well, I have bad news for you guys. I ended up getting rid of my TM8104 due to this problem. It went to the service center for four times, three LCDs have been exchanged, and the problem never dissapeared. The service center never could fix it. I am sorry.

I have had like purple ghosting and exactly what you say in the right lower corner or just bottom of the screen - exactly like too long response of the monitor (upt to 2seconds!) Everything started with lighter lines visible on the pastel coloured backgrounds - like sky blue or grey or MS office background grey. It appeared only after the notebook has been running constantly like for 7 hours or so. Then after cooling down it disappeared. It is a shame. They told me they can not solve the problem. EVen German engineers had a look at it. If you have a chance - have it replaced, otherwise you will experience the problems on and on. I know it sucks, but I know what I went through...

I just had my notebook returned as well. My other problems were fixed, however the image still persists. :O this is a big problem and I am NOT happy.

I had this problem on my Ferrari 4005. It took about 2 days to dissapear, but i was using the computer during that time.

BTW, WarcraftIII can cause this to happen over a period of about 30 minutes if you leave it paused.

I don't think that the problem is with the game, but with the screen. I mean come on... LCD screens had this problem 10 years ago; it has definitely changed since then... maybe not at Acer.

I have a problem of brighter pixels temporarily burning in if something is left up on the screen for a long time without a screen saver and the screen is kept on. However, the lighter burned in pixels are really only noticeable on a dark background and quickly fade away. My solution was to always have the screen turn on after 10 minutes of inactivity and as a precaution, enable the windows blank black screen saver after 10 minutes too.

I haven’t had any other problems with burn in other than that. I use my 8104 like a desktop and never turn it off or close the lid, and I really have had no problems so far other than my battery no longer holding a charge...
