Battery Life! Inspiron E1705!

Thread Starter
I'm thinking of buying an inspiron e1705...BUT.......the dell reps tell me it will get between 4-8 hours of battery life, while reviews I've read say it gets only 2.5 hours! If you own an E1705, can you please tell me what kind of battery life its getting? Thanks!

4-8 hours? That probably will be cell phone made by Dell.

My e1705 only lasts just a little over 1 hour, with 6 cell battery.

This reminds me...is the battery draining issue still there? Or has it been fixed?

I get about 2 1/2 to 3 hours if i just surf the web and email. I have the 6 cell battery.

I get 2 1/2 hours running the 9 cell.

2 1/2 hours on the 9 cell with WiFi and BT active, WUXGA max bright... The battery draining issue was fixed in July of 05 by a registry change.

sounds like its gettin less battery life then the P-M's, that doesn't seem right

2.5Hrs, with WiFi on (no BT) and the 7800Go and 9-cell.

I just applied the registry fix, still the same, 1.5 hours. WiFi on, no 3D app, no heavy load, just Word and web.

This make sense, 1.5hr * 9cell/6cell = 2.25 hours.

The battery is very small and light weight, I should have bought the 9 cell.

Video card is also a very big factor in battery life. I get about 2.5 hours (9Cell battery) by surfing on the net. I would bet if you get a "Intel" integrated graphic card and set everything to "Max battery life saving" you might be able to achieve ( with a 9 cell battery) 4-5 hours, that also means degrading your wireless card to its slowest and turning down your lcd brightness. Good luck!!!

I have a 7800 go, 1.8GZ (t2400?) core duo, intel 3954 wireless, and 5400 rpm 60Gb HDD.

1:33 on 9 cell browsing the web (at full brightness) and using the Dell USB TV which runs the processor continously at 30%. Because of this I have 4 batteries.

Get the 9 cells on ebay, I got them for $71 each after shipping.

Then get onboard video because any video card with any serious power approaching the 7800go is going to give not so good battery life. Also the 17" screen is a drain but give me the native 1900X1200 for HD DVD movies. The X1400 should give 3 1/2 to 4 hours but not the 7800go. There is a reason the 700m has great battery life. No graphics and a small screen. Those are the two biggest drains on the computer. Mine is a desktop replacement and I can get a hair over 2:15-2:30 if I turn the screen down a few clicks.

Not too much of an issue for me though because again the power of the computer is worth the trade off of only two + hours a of battery life. People cannot with any sense of any intelligence seriously expect a computer with graphics nearing desktop levels to have 4-5 hrs of batt life. Sorry not going to happen unless they invent plutonium batteries or something of that ilk

Seriously though battery technology is changing and I would not be surprised to have great battery life in the next few years for even the high powered laptops.

see i think your wrong. mmy 6000 ( yes i know, only x300) has an ability to undercllock the video card while on battery. i think they just need to perfect this with the 7800. if running full power, of course a computer wont get crap for battery life. but when the card is clocked down to 1/3 or so of what it usually is at, it should be better than 1.5-2hrs with a 9cell.

hell, the 9300 with 9cell got 4-4.5 with a 6800, and that was more of a power hog than the 7800!

erms...8 hours on a E1705 is a lot...that's probably with an integrated graphics and max battery savings...

My girlfriends E1505 gets 9+ hours with max battery savings and everything...She has integrated graphics with no BT....

I changed graphics to max battery saving, brightness is next to brightest level (WXGA+), still 1.5 hour on my 6 cell e1705.

Either the 7800 or 17 inch LCD is too power hungry.
